Aiden stepped into the main science offices, the hum of machinery and the soft glow of consoles filling the room. As he glanced around, he noted the organized chaos of scientific instruments and data displays, a testament to the diligent work of the crew. His eyes scanned the room, searching for the familiar figure of the Chief Science Officer amidst the bustling activity.

Spotting a group of scientists engaged in a discussion near the central console, Aiden approached them with purpose. Clearing his throat to announce his presence, he addressed the group in a calm but authoritative tone.

“Good afternoon,” he greeted, his voice carrying across the room. “I’m looking for the Chief Science Officer. Could anyone point me in their direction?”

Thalia glanced up from her datapad as Captain Aiden Voss entered the science offices. She watched him with curiosity, her attention momentarily drawn away from the calculations she had been poring over.
As he approached her a group of other scientists, Thalia straightened in her seat, curious to see what brought the captain to their domain. As he inquired about the Chief Science Officer, her mind went through possible reasons for his visit. Was there a new development in their research? Or perhaps a mission directive that required their expertise?

“Good afternoon, Captain,” Thalia greeted respectfully. She offered him a polite smile, though inwardly she was analyzing every possible reason for his visit. “I am not sure where the Chief Science Officer is but, is there anything I can do to assist you today?”

He offered a friendly smile. “That’s quite alright, Ensign. Honestly, I’m just here to get acquainted with the crew. Since the ship’s chief science officer is unavailable, perhaps you could give me a tour of your science facilities until they return? By the way, what’s your name?” he asked, his tone warm and welcoming.

“Of course, Captain,” she replied, her voice steady despite the anxiety that was building inside the pit of her stomach. “I’m Ensign Summerhill, pleased to meet you.” Rising from her seat, she gestured for him to follow her. “I’d be happy to give you a tour of our facilities. Follow me.” She said with a smile as she began leading the way. ” Anything in particular you are interested in seeing?” she asked.

Aiden followed the ensign, his eyes casually scanning the surroundings without any particular focus. “Why don’t we start with the current science projects you’re working on? I’m aware that starships often share collaborative workstreams over subspace. Even if, for example, we’re not actively seeking out our own scientific discoveries, we’re still able to contribute to the wider scientific community,” he suggested, curious about the ongoing research endeavors aboard the ship.

As they walked, Thalia nodded, she could tell he had experience as a science officer and tried to focus on his question about the current science projects. “Well, Captain, we’re currently conducting research on subspace anomalies in the Beta Quadrant,” she began, trying to keep her voice steady. “We’ve also been studying the gravitational effects of nearby pulsars on the local stellar environment.”

She glanced at him, hoping her explanation was sufficient. As they approached the main science lab, she pushed open the door to the lab and gestured for him to enter. “Here we are, Captain. This is where most of our research takes place,” she said, trying to sound confident.

Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)

Matt hadn’t noticed the captain come in. Actually, that’s what they had discussed during the original briefing. He approached. “I see you’ve met Ens. Summerhill. How’s the tour going?

Aiden smiled warmly at Easton and nodded appreciatively at Summerhill’s explanation. “Thank you, Ensign Summerhill. Your work sounds fascinating, and I’m eager to see the results of your research,” he remarked, his interest piqued by the mention of subspace anomalies and gravitational effects. Stepping further into the science lab, he took in the array of equipment and monitors with a sense of admiration for the dedication of the crew.

“Indeed, it’s been quite enlightening,” Aiden replied to Matt, acknowledging the young officer’s presence with a nod. “Ensign Summerhill has been providing me with an overview of the current projects. I’m impressed by the breadth of research being conducted aboard the Memorial.” He glanced around the lab, his gaze lingering on various displays and workstations.

Thalia was relieved that her explanation seemed to satisfy him. She watched as he inspected the lab, his interest evident in his expression. Swallowing nervously, she tried to maintain her composure, reminding herself to act as professionally as possible in front of the commanding officer.
“Thank you, Captain,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper as she followed his gaze around the lab. She felt pride at his appreciation for their work.

As Matt approached, Thalia forced herself to tear her gaze away from the captain and turn her attention to the Chief Science Officer. She offered him a small, tentative smile, hoping he wouldn’t notice the slight tremor in her hands.
“The tour is going well, sir,” she replied, her voice steadier now, though she couldn’t completely shake off her nerves. “Captain Voss seemed genuinely interested in our research projects.” Thalia gestured toward the various stations set up around the lab, her eyes darting between Matt and the captain as she spoke.
Thalia exuded confidence as she spoke, though beneath her composed exterior, she couldn’t shake a lingering sense of caution. She knew she was a capable scientist, yet despite her competence, this encounter felt like a trial. She hoped her outward enthusiasm for their research would overshadow any traces of nervousness she might inadvertently display. Thalia understood that she didn’t need to prove herself, but still felt the weight of expectation upon her shoulders. This wasn’t just about showcasing her skills; it was about demonstrating her ability to handle pressure with grace and precision.

Matt responded. “That’s great. I’ll let you continue the tour. I’m still quite new myself.”

“Lieutenant, this is a prime moment for us to delve into your approach to scientific operations. Fresh perspectives often bring innovative ideas, and now seems opportune to initiate any adjustments.” Aiden turned his attention to Ensign Summerhill. “Your guidance through the lab has been invaluable, Ensign. I’ll be keeping an eye on progress and checking in periodically. You’re truly an exemplary officer.”

Matt couldn’t agree more. Most of the science crew had been held over from the last CSO. He had heard of him. But had never met him. “From what I’ve heard she is The staff is a credit to the previous chief. He seemed to be a good officer himself.”

OOC: Sorry, had surgery and just got back to posting.

OOC: That’s ok!

“Yes it would appear your own observations are correct, how did your transfer come about?” He asked referring to his earlier statement of being new himself. He was aware that his own arrival would happen with several of the senior staff.

That was a good question. It had been very abrupt. It was almost as if his predecessor’s departure was not planned at all. “Well, it was quite quick. I was looking to get back out onto a ship. But, I wasn’t expecting it to be so fast.”
