Aiden would see a 5’ 10” Caitian Woman her fur pattern was brown but that was because it was a mix of so many colors she had a bright yellow colored oval spot on her forehead in her right ear she had 3 rings and in her left she had 2 she was rather shapely though still clearly fit she wore the typical yellow Operations uniform however instead of Pants she wore the very rare but still an option skirt she also did not have boots on though this was obvious being that Paws and a Digitigrade stance would make wearing boots kind of hard instead she had on what looked like leg armor covering the tops of her paws and covering her legs up to just under the hem of her skirt

With his rank being mentioned, Aiden turned to face the voice. He wasn’t sure what he expected; he knew the Federation boasted a myriad of lifeforms, but he had yet to encounter a Caitian. “Commander,” he replied, allowing his brain a moment to adjust and recall her name. “Commander Miz’Uki?” he finally added, his tone infused with a hint of inquiry before continuing, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“likewise captain and Yes I am Commander Miz’uki your new Chief Engineer” she said as she offered her hand for him to shake “Figured I would come report in” she added smiling

“It’s good to know that my late-night efforts to remember at least my command team were worth the trouble,” he remarked with a slight chuckle. “Shall we head to my ready room?” Aiden offered, open to staying on the bridge, going to his ready room, or accommodating any other preference the chief might have. He wanted to ensure their conversation took place in a comfortable setting where they could discuss matters freely.

She gave a slight bow and a wave of her hand in a way that said ‘After you good sir’ and she followed him to the ready room her paws padding softly on the carpet of the bridge her tail swishing back and forth with each step this captain seemed a good sort but she would have some words with him about the status of Maizie

Miz’uki

As they entered the ready room, Aiden gestured towards the seating area, indicating for Miz’Uki to take a seat if she wished. “Please, make yourself comfortable,” he said warmly. “Can I offer you any refreshments? We have a variety of options available.”

As Miz’Uki settled into the chair, Aiden took a moment to reflect on her presence. “I must admit,” he began, “I haven’t encountered many Caitians serving in Starfleet. It’s a pleasure to have you aboard the USS Memorial.” He paused, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Although, I did have a few Caitian families residing on Starbase 12 during my time there.”

Pouring himself a glass of water, Aiden took a seat opposite Miz’Uki, folding his hands on the table. “Now, Miz’Uki,” he continued, “I’m eager to hear your thoughts on our current situation and any insights you might have regarding the ship and its crew. Is there anything specific you’d like to discuss?”

“Well I do have one thing I must unfortunately raise issue with the standing order you have given to Maizie I have been reading up on the ENTITY AI units and I feel that the restriction you have placed upon her will lead her to develop in a way that you wont like where as if we treat her with Trust and kindness from the start she will develop into a Very powerful Friend” she said

Aiden’s acknowledgment of the situation regarding MAZIE’s capabilities was evident as he made his way behind his desk, his expression contemplative. “Indeed,” he began, his voice carrying a weight of consideration. “I’ve been delving into the complexities of artificial intelligence myself. There are valid concerns about their presence aboard starships, particularly regarding their potential for growth and influence.” He paused, leaning against the edge of his desk. “While I don’t subscribe to the more alarmist views, I do recognise the inherent risks and opportunities that come with entities like MAZIE interfacing with the ship’s systems.”

Aiden’s gaze drifted towards the viewport, the stars beyond casting a soft glow into the room. “Imagine the power someone could wield if they were to exploit such an entity,” he continued, his tone thoughtful. “While MAZIE herself may not pose a direct risk, the potential for manipulation is there. We must proceed with caution and consider the implications of allowing such technology to play a significant role in our operations.” He turned back to Miz’Uki, his expression earnest. “I’m eager to hear your perspective on this matter.”

“so your worried about potential foes hacking into her and using her against us? That can be solved with engendering loyalty to the ship and crew of course we would also need to teach her to look for signs that someone is trying to manipulate her but that can be fixed and even if someone is hacking in to take her over by force the Entity AI has safeguards against that and if you would be open to it Maybe we could run some drills with her Engineering Department Running Fake Hacking attempts for her to repel” she said she had not gotten anything to drink but was sitting in a chair at the desk her tail swishing back and forth with a metronome quality and the fake hacking attempt could have a simple goal of having her start scaring the crew with their fears as lined out in their files” she added not looking forward to the prospect of it working and seeing main Engineering crawling with holographic insects

“And what if she concludes that our decisions jeopardize the safety of the ship and crew? What if a choice I make forces her to prioritise against me and the crew’s well-being? How would she rationalise such scenarios? Would she prevent me from leading the crew into a potential life-or-death situation? Did you know they attempted to integrate AI into the Kobiyashi Maru simulation, only for the computer to lock out the crew from commands?” Aiden’s tone was pensive, relishing the chance to engage in a discussion about the integrity of Artificial Intelligence with someone as knowledgeable as Miz’uki.

“What about your Predecessor on this ship They must have taken the ship into dangerous Situations before that jeopardize the ship did your predecessor ever report that they had trouble with the AI?” she asked and as for the Kobiyashi Maru I was aware of it and it was rushed and integrated in a very sloppy manner All I am asking is that we give Maizie the chance to be herself And whats more the Entity AI already has Shackles you just told her to crawl into a cage as well all I am asking is that you ease up and let her develop as she should be able to develop instead of Making it clear that you don’t trust her!” she replied keeping her tone level and respectful though deep down she was furious she had encounters with other Entity AI’s during her time in the fleet yards and she had really come to respect them

“Trust is paramount among my crew,” Aiden affirmed, turning to face Lieutenant Beckett. “I can see your passion for this matter, so I’m willing to set aside my reservations. However, I need you to compile a comprehensive report on MAZIE’s fail-safes and conduct routine tests to assess her security measures against external cyber threats,” he instructed, placing his trust in his new chief. “MAZIE, please deactivate my order to suppress your ability to grow.”

“You got it sir As soon as I finish My Boarding Procedures such as the medical check and what not I will get my Teams on not only that but Going through everything with a fine toothed comb and making sure the memorial is ready for anything Just…Do me a favor Keep me away from any and all Situations where I might encounter Insects…or Insect like creatures…I…I have a very strong Case of Entomophobia its in my file and I am always working with a counselor on that but Still…” she added coming clean about her Fear

“Well I can’t guarantee we won’t come across any instectoid life forms but if we do I’ll make sure you’re kept out the way, and thank you for sharing that with me it’s not easy and please don’t worry, we all have our fears.” He admitted considering his own for a moment and while he appreciated her sharing her own he was not in the sharing mind. “Is there anything else?” He asked politely.

“No sir I will get right on everything right away” she purred standing up and offering her paw for another handshake

Aiden accepted her gesture and returned with his own hand and shook, “Thank you Chief, I look forward to working with you.”
