After settling her belongings and experiencing a rush of emotions, Andromeda heeded the advice of the Operations crewman and decided to check in with her department head. “Computer,” she called out, initiating her inquiry.=^= Awaiting Query =^= responded the LCARS system with its somewhat robotic yet human-like voice.
“Please locate Commander Janzen.”
=^= Commander Janzen, chief science officer of the USS Memorial, is currently in his office on Deck 4. Awaiting Query =^=
“Please display the quickest route to his office.”
=^= Calculating. The route will be displayed as blue arrows, and consoles will activate in the proximity of Ensign Lykaios’s comm signature. Awaiting Query =^=
“No, thank you, computer,” she responded, opting instead to use the nearest wall console. True to the system’s word, a small blue arrow appeared in the navigation section, indicating the direction she needed to travel. “Here goes nothing,” she muttered, taking a step forward with determination.
Navigating the ship’s corridors, Andromeda soon arrived at the Commander’s office. The Pendragon-class vessel’s compact size and efficient turbo-lift system made the journey swift. Pausing briefly to adjust her uniform, she pressed the door chime, hoping that Commander Janzen was still available.

USS MemorialBJ was in his office. He was currently reconnecting with home. He was always reconnecting with family and friends when he had the time off. That was the hard part of being out here. He heard the chime at the door.
=^=Got to go Mikey. Sorry, someone’s here to see me. Later.=^= His friends face faded out. He’d get back to him later.
“Come in.”
Janzen
As the door slid open to grant her entrance, Ande stepped into the commander’s office. Though she wasn’t particularly tall herself, she couldn’t help but notice that the Commander, seated behind his desk, was actually shorter than she had anticipated. In her mind’s eye, she had imagined him as a towering figure, adorned with gleaming commander pips and impeccably polished shoes, casting a shadow over her. But in reality, he appeared decidedly human. “Commander, as per Regulation 3-11, I am presenting myself to you, my Department Head. I just recently arrived from Starfleet Academy.” She added in explanation.

USS Memorial=/=Oh goodie a rookie.=/=BJ thought. He had been in this spot before. Everyone had been in this spot before. “Welcome. Why don’t you tell me what you’re interested in?”
Janzen
Andromeda’s heart fluttered nervously as she stood before the Commander, trying her best to appear composed despite the racing thoughts in her mind. “Thank you, Commander,” she began, her voice betraying a hint of apprehension. “I, um, I’m Ensign Andromeda Lykaios, assigned as a Scientist on the USS Memorial. I… I love climbing,” she offered, her words stumbling slightly as she recalled her passion for scaling the foothills of Asos. “It’s something I grew to love during my time childhood.” She paused, feeling a surge of self-consciousness, then quickly added, “And, uh, my other interests include cooking, singing, and anything on the water. I, um, I was a port city resident during most of my childhood, so… so most of my hobbies were… were water-bound.” She trailed off, hoping she had made a good impression despite her nervous rambling.

USS MemorialBJ nodded his head. ” Join the club. I grew up on a lake. By the way stop being so nervous you’re going to hurt yourself. Relax.”
Janzen
“Sorry” she said as if being told to relax would simply make her feel better, she let out a breath. “So where did you grow up?” She thought perhaps small talk would ease her anxiety.

USS MemorialBJ understood what she was going through. “Hasting, in Canada on Earth. It’s on the edge of a lake so I’m quite used to water. I had a boat at one point. Then my friend sank it.” He was smiling at this. This was one of thing him and his friend laughed about when they got together.

Andromeda nodded, grateful for the opportunity to divert the conversation away from herself for a moment. “Hasting sounds lovely,” she replied, mustering a small smile. “Being near the water must have been nice. And… uh… about your boat,” she hesitated, unsure if she should pry further but curious nonetheless, “how did your friend manage to sink it?” She tried to sound genuinely interested, hoping to keep the conversation flowing and alleviate some of her own tension.

USS MemorialNow that was a story. “That’s a fun story. Unlike me, my friend is not as good of a navigator. As he doesn’t understand the buoys. Which is why he hit a rock.”
Janzen
“It must have been a pretty large rock for it sink your boat?” She pushed.
