Matt came up to the door of the counseling center. There was always the formalities of coming aboard a ship or station. He’d wait to be seen. It was only a formality that he would have to speak with one of the counselors.Easton CSO

Asher was on duty, so when Easton walked up to the door it opened automatically revealing a rather light delicate setting, one that would invite someone in and looked a lot more spacious that perhaps it actually was thanks to the decor. “Commander” Asher started having received the list of all the new crew who should be visiting him over the next few days as per regulation. “Can I offer you any refreshments?” He asked.

USS MemorialMatt was still getting used to be addressed that way. It hadn’t been long since he was promoted. “Chai Tea if you have any.” That immediately sounded stupid. Of course, he could. They had replicators.

“You know we have replicators, right? We have mostly everything,” Asher remarked casually as he strolled over to the replicator. “But there’s just something special about the ritual of preparing a cup of chai tea.”
He tapped a few commands into the replicator interface. “Chai Tea, please. Drinking temperature,” he specified, adding a touch of warmth to his voice. As the drinks materialized along with a silver tray bearing two empty mugs and a pot of steaming tea, Asher carefully lifted the tray.
“Please, have a seat,” he offered graciously, gesturing towards the comfortable chairs arranged around the ornate coffee table. Setting the tray down gently, he poured the fragrant tea into the waiting mugs, the aroma filling the air with warmth and spice.

USS MemorialMatt sat down. “Tea has always had a place in culture. It’s like tea is ceremonial.” He took the mug and took a sip. “This one is always quite good.”

“Indeed,” Asher continued, a hint of enthusiasm coloring his tone. “Tea’s influence spans far beyond mere refreshment. Its origins trace back thousands of years, with legends suggesting it was first discovered by Emperor Shen Nong of China around 2737 BCE. From there, it spread across continents and cultures, each adopting its own unique rituals and customs surrounding the preparation and consumption of tea.”
He leaned back slightly, his eyes brightening with a passion for the subject. “In Japan, for instance, the tea ceremony, or ‘chanoyu,’ is a revered tradition centred on the meticulous preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. It’s not just about drinking tea; it’s a spiritual practice, emphasizing harmony, respect, purity, and tranquillity.”
“And let’s not forget about the British,” he added with a chuckle. “Their love affair with tea is legendary, shaping social customs and even influencing international trade routes. Afternoon tea, with its scones, sandwiches, and delicate pastries, became an institution in British society, symbolizing refinement and elegance.”
Asher paused, taking a sip of his chai tea as he contemplated the vast tapestry of tea culture. “Across the galaxy, I’ve encountered countless variations of tea, each with its own story to tell. It’s fascinating how such a simple beverage can connect us to our past, our traditions, and each other.” He set his own down. “So Commander, tell me how your settling in?”

USS MemorialMatt took the pot and pour a cup. He put two sugars in and stirred. “It’s going. From what I’ve heard; I got some large shoes to fill. But I’ll try.”
