Luke wanted to suggest something like not locking the door in the first place but knew it wouldn’t earn him any brownie points. “Pay isn’t what drives me, if the current Chief doesn’t mind turning a blind eye because the captain says so, if and when I become chief don’t expect me to also not want to, what you’re doing clearly has a direct impact on the ships safety, and that’s what I concern myself about. I’ve got my eye on you so to speak, nothing good ever comes from keeping secret especially when we’re all in the same boat” Lukes tone wasn’t aggressive, or invoking but it was cool, calm and collected. He meant every word.

Faye spread her hands in front of her outwards- the first time she had moved them from the door frame. “Look, Lieutenant. If I had any say in how this all worked, you would all know and I wouldn’t be here having to defend my territory for seemingly arbitrary reasons. But I have my orders. They are what they are and I can’t change them. Watch me all you want, but honestly, just let me do my job. It’s hard enough as it is.” Did she sound as bitter as she felt? Ah well, he could take it how he wished.

Studying her he let out a sigh. “And I am just trying to do mine Lieutenant, I’m not saying it to be difficult I’m saying it because it only takes the smallest unknown for something to go wrong, and right not your work is that unknown, can you tell me one thing?” Luke looked at the woman dead in the eye, “Could your work directly affect the safety of this ship and this crew?”

He smiled unsure if that’s the answer he wanted to hear. “Well, since it seems we’re at an impasse I suppose it would only make sense to part ways” He held out his hand, “It was good to meet you Lieutenant Faye Calloway, Data specialist, and all-around mysterious person.” He chuckled trying to show he wasn’t just this uptight security officer, he was far from it but he took his job very seriously and apparently, as did she.

A thought popping into the security officers’ head, “You’re not one of those Section 31 types are you?” He said quickly with a geekish wink.
