“Faye Calloway. I’m the data specialist on the ship. My job is to build and maintain data protection protocols, and intercept any threats before they harm our computer’s operating system. Which is why you absolutely aren’t coming in… right now. I’ve got sensitive stuff on the go and some of my work is classified. I report to the XO and the Captain, so if this proves to be a problem for you, I would encourage you to take it up with them,” she said with a light smile.

“Right now” He said with a half cocked smile, “That does imply I can come in at… some point. ” Luke knew when he was beat, he obviously wasn’t going to go marching up to the XO and CO asking to be allowed to review her systems, room and security codes as much fun that would be, perhaps atkeast he could create a rapport with her. “If all you do is look at ones and zeros just how classified does it need to be and how come the chief of Security isn’t on that list?” he asked, any information was better than no information.

“Because they aren’t. The reasons for that are, frankly, above your pay grade.” Her brows knit together. “And his, come to think of it.” Calloway shrugged easily. “Call it an awkward situation all around. But next time you want into a room. Try the chime. Or knocking. Kicking it just tends to make the occupant irritated. Especially after your bypass attempt already kicked off an alarm for me. Very distracting!”

Luke wanted to suggest something like not locking the door in the first place but knew it wouldn’t earn him any brownie points. “Pay isn’t what drives me, if the current Chief doesn’t mind turning a blind eye because the captain says so, if and when I become chief don’t expect me to also not want to, what you’re doing clearly has a direct impact on the ships safety, and that’s what I concern myself about. I’ve got my eye on you so to speak, nothing good ever comes from keeping secret especially when we’re all in the same boat” Lukes tone wasn’t aggressive, or invoking but it was cool, calm and collected. He meant every word.

Faye spread her hands in front of her outwards- the first time she had moved them from the door frame. “Look, Lieutenant. If I had any say in how this all worked, you would all know and I wouldn’t be here having to defend my territory for seemingly arbitrary reasons. But I have my orders. They are what they are and I can’t change them. Watch me all you want, but honestly, just let me do my job. It’s hard enough as it is.” Did she sound as bitter as she felt? Ah well, he could take it how he wished.
