The Manhattan offered little in the way of services for the security personnel on the ship, and when it came to the day to day duties Luke had to get creative which fortunately for him, he was very good at. Today however Luke found himself running a security sweep of all the systems ensuring that none of their systems had been inappropriately tampered, broken or used since the last one which was typically every 48 hours but for Luke, this would be the first time. Standing on the bridge, using one of the spare support stations he set the sweep up and then turned, to observe the bridge.
The bridge was your a-typical Starfleet style, viewscreen at the very front of the bridge with forward-facing command seats, three off and then those surrounded by various stations some occupied but most not at this time. The viewscreen was on and showing the stars as they cut through them so after a few minutes, even that didn’t satisfy his curiosity.
Humming quietly to himself Luke rhythm was cut short when the console he had been leaning on chirped drawing his fall attention, there was a station on deck 13, computer science lab two which was no responding to his authorization and refusing to feedback its status. Deciding that he had nothing better to do and the idea of actually having a job that may pique his interest was not something the security office was going to pass up. Prompting the sweep to skip that station he set it to silent, locked it, and made his way to deck 13.
With the use of turbolifts getting around starships was relatively quick and meant that the amount of walking was cut considerably that said it did take some time for Luke to finally come about the door to the science lab which opened as he neared it.
The door however wasn’t on the same page as he because it refused to open, he pushed the door control panel several times but still it didn’t open. “Computer, scan Computer Science Lab two for life signs”
“Unable to comply” Came the computers voice.
“Playing hard to get are we?” He said prying off the emergency release panel and giving it a triumphant pull but when the door didn’t he groaned and kicked the door. He was getting in that room.

Suddenly the door opened and a woman in a sciences uniform with two solid pips appeared, blocking the doorway, with her hands braced on either side of the door. Medium brown hair was tidily pulled back into a french braid and her grey-green eyes reflected a storm at sea. “You know, most people would just knock,” she said dryly, taking him in rather intensely. As airy as her voice was in this moment, her body language said unequivocally ‘back off!’.

The sudden opening of the door gave Luke pause but he quickly recovered and looked the woman up and down, he could regard her as pretty under a different circumstance but this wasn’t the time or place.
A Lieutenant, so she had that on him but what was she doing that was so important that, he voiced his next question. “Why has the emergency manual override to this door been disabled and why has this lab been disconnected from the computer core. Routine security checks flagged up this room, Lieutenant. ” He explained a lot calmer than he felt with her precense being so aggressive. Luke then added “usually when someone locks the doors and turns off the lights they’re up to no good.”

She smirked at him. “Appearances can be deceiving,” she said with a glimmer in her eyes. If nothing else, today might end up being more interesting than she anticipated. Faye, of course, knew who he was, but the how and why of that was not public, nor would it be anytime soon. Looking over her shoulder briefly, she gave something of a shrug. “Lights are all on in here. Besides, if you checked the room assignment records, you’d note that this lab is sealed to non-essential personnel, of which there’s… what, three of us? Two of whom have access but don’t actually work in here.”

She had him there, in his haste to get away from the bridge he hadn’t checked the room assignment. “Even though this ship is a science vessel and glorified server room with its three dedicated decks to the core alone, I wouldn’t class security as non-essential especially when they’re conducting sensitive security checks. All that side disabling the manual override is against health and safety” Luke stopped short, had he seriously just pulled the health and safety card out. “Since the door is open and the lights are on, you wouldn’t mind if I made peaceful enetery and had a quick sweep of the room.” He moved as if to preempt her acceptance, as if she had the choice.
