Kaia giggled. “Hah. I would say sorry but I am very happy I did that. So I will not apologize!” She said, almost cheekily, pulling her hand away and stepping through the door into the turbolift.

“Good,” Kiama replied with a soft laugh as she followed Kaia into the turbolift. It didn’t take long till they arrived on the deck they wanted to get to and she led the way off the lift. She then let Kaia take the lead again. “Tell me, what do you like best about being in Starfleet in general and on the Manhattan in particular?” she asked out of the blue.

Kaia was quiet for a moment at the question, pausing to stand still for a few moments. “Well, I love being in space. Being able to meet people and explore the galaxy. And play with tech while doing that!” She clasped her hands together, then let them fall to her sides with a slightly sad look. “I could get some of that from the Galdori Fleet, but not as much as in Starfleet. My people don’t go as far away from their homes as you do in Starfleet. And specific about the Manhattan…” she trailed off, scratching her nose slightly. “Ahh… I dunno. Nothing really, other than familiarity with the ship. It’s become a home of sorts to me, but I think another ship would be the same by now. I, uh… I don’t like the doctor. The scary one with brown hair…”

Kiama nodded her and there as she listened closely to her friend.

Kaia looked away, almost embarrassed. “I haven’t been to any of my routine check-ups, cause the first time I went in she berated me for being needy and attention-grabbing for just showing up in Sickbay for my arrival check-in…”

A frown appeared on Kiama’s face and she pursed her lips. She assumed Kaia was talking about the Chief Medical Officer and she was not happy to hear her friend had apparently been treated poorly. “I haven’t really had any interactions with Doctor Wynter. Doctor Shon took care of my boarding evaluation. I’m sorry you had such a negative experience in sickbay.” Looking at Kaia with a gentle smile, she asked, “What would help you?”

“Not having to see Dr. Wynter again,” Kaia muttered quietly. She shook her head slightly. “I do not know. I was really razzled and out of sorts at the time. There had been an accident on the way in and I had nearly gotten hypothermia. I came in and I was feeling a little better because of the adrenaline that was pumping through me at the rescue, but when I settled down on the biobed it all came crashing down that I’d seen someone die right in front of me, and… the cold came back and suddenly I was shivering again, and somehow I was attention seeking despite being in clear need of medical aid…” Kaia had been very upset by the experience and hadn’t really talked about it to anyone since.
