OOC: This is definitely before Mama-dearest shows up and the whole current Ready Room thread.
IC:
Okay, she could do this, right? It was just a casual invitation since she felt that things had gone in a very awkward direction since the incident in the jefferies tube. Ulterior motives aside, it was much easier for her to be social on a smaller scale and, well, she knew these three people. They weren’t strangers to her and were (mostly) well aware of the often ticking time-bomb that was Faye Calloway.

So she sent the first message with a grin, thinking in the very least it would be sort of funny:

To: Lieutenant Commander Wynter, Maxwell and Lieutenant Wynter, Jasmine.
From Lieutenant Calloway, Faye.

Re: Pizza Night

Okay, so it’s about time I paid up, right Max? I clearly owe you pizza even though it wasn’t my fault. Still I can admit when I’ve lost the bargain. And Jas, well, I can’t very well leave you out of the fun (or torture, depending on your point of view), now can I? I might invite another person as well, so we can evaluate my pizza making skills fairly.

Friday. 1900 Hours. My place.

~Faye

She hit send and smirked. Okay, it was either trying to hard, or funny. She never could quite tell, but at least she had a reasonable expectation they would come. If not, well… this was going to be awkward.

To: Captain Cochrane, Alexander
From Lieutenant Calloway, Faye.

Re: Pizza Night

So, long story short, Max Wynter and I had a bargain about my little installation project. Which I lost and now I owe him freshly made pizza. Lucky for him (and his wife), I actually can cook. It occurred to me as well that I owe you something for having a part of ship blow up even if it wasn’t actuallymy fault. Still, you’re more than welcome to join us. If you’re worried about food poisoning, don’t worry I’ve got a doctor on hand.

Friday. 1900 Hours. My place.

Her finger hovered over the screen and was about to erase it all and not bother. But she squeezed her eyes and told the computer to send it. It was gone, into the abyss of data. Too late to change her mind now. Well she could, but then they would all know she had chickened out.

Ah well, she’d been proven a fool before and the stakes on this evening were relatively low.

The comms remained quiet for a few moments, then a text-only reply came through.

=^= I’ll be there. Thanks for the invite.

Max had walked into his quarters, paused and looked around. Jasmine wasn’t back from her shift yet so he had time to shower and change, then relax slightly before settling in for the night. Dropping his tunic jacket over the back of the nearest dining table chair and kicking off his shoes, which he made sure went behind the sofa and not visible from the doorway he began to hum to himself a tune that he had in mind, it was a catchy tune from the latest in galactic rubbish reality-TV that he had promised Jasmine he would watch an episode of, and tonight was going to be the night when he would watch it and make her watch it with him. Something called The Gorn King, if he remembered right but really he didn’t care. What he really wanted was an excuse to sit down beside Jaz and put his arm around her.

==================
The other side of the ship
==================
Jasmine pulled on her coat leaving her office. She checked her watch seeing she had just enough time to get back to their quarters, shower, and head out to the pizza part at Faye’s. Jasmine loved first dates especially when they weren’t hers. The night held so much promise. With a spring in her step, Jasmine pressed the turbo console to speed her way home. She had prepped Max but not exactly in the most forward method. Jasmine bit her lip as her mind flew with thoughts as fast at the numbers rising with the level of the floors. Only now had Jasmine began to thing Max might not see it as fun as she did but it was not like they had anything else planned. It would be a surprise. They needed more spontaneous things in their life to get them out of the rut of coming home and snuggling on the couch. In fact, a few nights ago Max said they needed to spice things up a bit and a double date with the captain and Faye fit that bill.
=================

Dropping his work belt on the coffee table as he passed it, Max headed for the shower. It wasn’t long later that he was out and dressed, and picked up one of the PaDD’s they had for personal use as he sat down on the sofa and put his feet on the coffee table, accidentally knocking his work belt off of it but deciding he would pick that up in a moment. Turning the PaDD on, he scanned the messages they had received. Skipping the ones from both his mother and Jasmine’s mother he followed the list down and though that he really, really needed to take both he and Jaz off the mailing lists for all these shopping and news network sites.

A message from Faye popped up and he skipped that too, he was off-duty after all. Then a message from Jasmine came into view and he smiled, touching the screen to go straight into it. I knew you would skip it, so now I know you’ve opened it, you can read it and reply for us was the subject line and Max raised an eyebrow as he scanned down the page, noting that Jasmine had simply forwarded him Faye’s message from above that he had skipped knowing he wouldn’t read it straight away.

“Oh you evil witch,” he muttered to himself. “That was sneaky, alright let’s see what she says.” Max read the message for a few moments and then looked up and out the window for a moment. Pizza and socializing or The Gorn King and a couch with Jasmine? Tough choice. Hitting reply, Max began to respond:

To: Lieutenant Calloway, Faye.
From Lieutenant Commander Wynter, Maxwell.

Re: Pizza Night

Hi Faye, thanks for the invite, Jaz and I are so pleased you invited us for pizza but we have to decline. We have a prior engagement with a video conference regarding some details of our marital contract that our mothers want to discuss. Something about kids being part of the deal or something, I forget. Anyway I would rather have pizza but according to Mintaran contract law article 4834 page 37 subsection 72d I have to attend or spend a week with her mother in a term we call Social Familiarization. It’s a term we Mintarans shudder at. Mainly the husbands for some reason.

Thank you for the invite though, lets try for another night.

~Max W

Reading it again, Max nodded at an excuse well written and raised his hand to give a small flourish as he pressed send, but before his hand descended, the door to their quarters slid open with the announcing swoosh of fate. Max closed his eyes, maybe he could hit send before fate intervened.

“Oh my god thank you. I didn’t get a chance to reply we are coming and I can’t believe it,” Jasmine crossed the room wrapping her arms around Max’s neck. “You are ready. We only have about thirty minutes and when we are sharing showers we never get out on time,” she nuzzled his neck giving him a soft kiss. Jasmine inhaled deeply smelling Max’s cologne and aftershave. “You know I am going to have a hard time keeping my hands off you. I mean I can barely do it now but you need to get dressed and out of those sweatpants. I am going to go get a shower and you can zip me up. Think of it as a practice to unzip it later,” she whispered in his ear. “Now hit send but tell her we will be about five minutes late but we will bring the wine,” she kissed him again on the neck before walking sultrily to the bedroom. Stopping at the door she spun around smiling at him. “If you are fast you might see me in a towel,” she winked. “This is going to be a great night.

“I know, I can’t wait, right.” Max smiled back and watched Jasmine walk into the bedroom. The moment the doors closed behind her he threw his head back, opened his mouth in a silent scream and beat the cushion next to him with vigor. Looking at the PaDD he sulkily picked it up, pressed delete and made the needed adjustments.

Re: Pizza Night

Hi Faye, thanks for the invite, Jaz and I are so happy to accept and see you tonight. We will be a few minutes late but don’t worry, we will bring the wine and beer.

See you soon.

~Max and Jaz

It took a bit of rigging which one of her guests was either going to applaud or threaten to throw her in the brig for. But as Faye surveyed her little makeshift oven, there was a distinct thread of pride that moved through her. It was a basic pizza oven. Enough to do a couple individual pizzas at a time, run with a power cell. So long as she watched things carefully it would work great. Not the same as open cooking or a stone oven, but hey beggars couldn’t be choosers and there was no way in hell she was going to do this in the mess hall, even if that strange man Harv would probably be okay with it. The last thing she needed for what was likely to be a really, terrible idea was a larger audience then she was about to have.

Her standard junior officer quarters were not exactly huge, and she had borrowed a table and two more chairs so they could eat somewhere reasonable, but Faye wasn’t one of heavily decorate. There was a small sofa and a coffee table tucked in one corner, and the rest of the living space consisted of her office space, which had involved a significant amount of tidying to look like she didn’t spend every waking moment working. At least the leafy potted plant in the corner and the wall shelf of seedlings under a grow light made the place look a little less austere.

Surveying the space, she nodded at the set-up, wth the pizza oven on a sturdy stand and an rolling ‘island’ providing prep space. The dough rested in a bowl, waiting to be rolled out and looked about right, though it had been ages since she had made it from scratch. She hadn’t finished getting all the toppings ready yet, but figured it was a good task after everyone arrived to keep her busy and her anxiety lower. At least somewhat under control?

Who was she kidding? She was going to be a ball of nerves no matter what. At least Faye’s default was to have no expectations, so at least if this blew up in a fury of flames (hopefully not actual flames), then she could at least know that she was no worse off than before.

Slipping into the bathroom, she quickly brushed out her dark brown hair, the teal having faded drastically. It was time to do something with it again, but for now, she left it loose, falling in soft waves.

She didn’t dress up per say. Faye knew how to, but this was supposed to be casual and so black slacks and a sheer black blouse over a thin strapped camisole suited her fine. It showed a bit of effort but wasn’t over-the-top.

Checking the time, it was nearly 1900 hours and she wasn’t sure how prompt anyone would be, but Faye set about tidying a final stack of padds to keep herself busy. Idle hands (or in her case, mind) and all that.

Hearing the chime, Faye was surprised and then chided herself. Of course Cochrane would be there on time or a tiny bit early. It fit the profile of the man to a T. She had really hoped that Jaz would get there first though in the hopes that she would feel less awkward, but on the other hand, she hadn’t had issues conversing with Alex on his own before, so it shouldn’t be any different tonight? Right?

With a slight sigh, Calloway moved to the door to let him in.

“Hi,” she said with a soft smile. “First one here, come on in.”

~Faye Calloway Data Specialist

“Thanks. Sorry for being early. I knew I waited, something would come up and then I’d be late.” and he held out a bottle of wine to her. “Also didnt know what to bring, so I brought red. Seemed appropriate for pizza.” and he chuckled.
