[Snip]Balian rose and extended a hand, “Fleet Captain Barazan, but you can call me Balian(Bay Lee un), I have always preferred Clausewitz myself, or Tsun Tsu, Moltke had his place. Though Risen’s On Romulus is interesting, if you read Vulcan.” Balian stated tapping one of the PaDDs on the book shelf. “And you can touch the shields, they are real, and the blades servicable. Can I get you anything Mr. Cunningham?” The Captain looked to be in his mid forties but well aged, until you took a long look in his eyes then there was an undefinable quality of age to him.

William shook Balian’s hand firmly and gave him a warm smile. To think he had been a bit nervous to meet the captain and all the while he was so personable and down to earth. Not at all like some of the stuffy commanders he’d met before.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Balian, ’ William replied and then he grinned, “I read Vulcan well enough to get by,” William admitted, “and Roman strategy is always fascinating, they way they think about their battlefield like a living breathing thing is something to learn from,” he added and as he let the man’s hand go he looked once more to the shields and then sword.
“My I ask where you aquired thes? Is that what I think it this what I think it is…the shield ofAchellies?” William asked with a bit of awe in his voice.William Cunningham-Counselor
Balian chuckled slightly at the question, “No one else has actually called it by name in some time. It is not the Original, at least I do not think that it is. I never dared have it authenticated. I have had it for a very long time, so who knows anymore. I know the Templar shield and Sword are not, authentic, they are modern materials, and artesian weathered, distressed and damaged, but functional complete.” Balian waved at the chairs.
“Have a seat,” Balian stated as he settled back into his own chair, and took a sip from his mug, “Can I get you anything?’

Willliam sat down across from the Captain imprsessed by the collection. “It’s a very fine collection captain,” he said with a nod of approval. When the man asked if he wanted a drink he smiled.
“Black tea with cream for me please. Perhaps sometime off duty we can chat while drinking something a bit stronger,” William replied and he grinned as he sat back in his chair.
“I find I am in need of a sparing partner to keep regulation fit. I do love swordplay, would you be willing sometime,” William asked wondering what kind of footwork the Captian would have. His natural stance seemed well suited for a natural swordman.William Cunningham-Counselor
The Captain nodded, and requested the drink from the replicator, the tea was then settled in front of the Counselor. “I do not spar often, but I do train daily. Though perhaps it can be arranged. On that front you should make the acquaintance of our Chief Operations Officer, he is quite the opponent to train with or against.” Balian stated evenly. “The supplies of non-synthetic is rather slim out this far beyond. But a nip or two on occasion might also be arranged. So tell me about yourself Mr. Cunningham”

William accepted the drink with thanks and a fond smile. He gripped the warm cup as he thought about he wanted to say. “Well I’m adopted, grew up in London with lovely adotive parents. I wanted to join star fleet but I’m sure you’ve read my file before allowing me on the ship. I’m here to prove myself if I’m being honest. I want to prove that I can be trusted.”
