As the alarms went off and all sensors spiked with the scanning activity, the Watch Officer slammed the comms open.

=/\= Captain to the bridge. =/\= NE Grohl said as the console in front of him lit up. Cochrane immediately came out of the Ready Room. Stepping to and sitting down in the center seat he said “Status, Ensign.” “Heavy scanning of all vessels and the station, sir. Very powerful. I can’t tell where it’s coming from…” and his voice trailed off as he bent over the science console and tried to get a bearing.

The source of the sensor emissions was a point barely a light year away. A small object, barely eight metres in length. A probe.

Jabbing a finger onto the arm console of the chair, Cochrane said “Shields up.” and then to the ship as a whole =/\= Yellow Alert. All personnel to stations. Senior Staff to the Bridge. =/\= He then looked at the helm officer. “Helm, detach us from Event Horizon. We aren’t much good leashed to the docking ring. Comms, open a channel to the defense forces and the station.” “Channel open, Captain.” was the immediate reply. =/\= All Federation Station Defense Forces, this is Captain Cochrane of the Manhattan. We have detected powerful scanning of all ships and the station, source unknown. Begin scanning for incoming vessels or anomalies in the area. Looks like we have new visitors. Manhattan out. =/\= and the channel was cleared.

Barvan, after finishing his psychological, medical and CoS evaluations, was on the bridge as Captain Cochrane entered it and blared into the comms channel. Being in the second comms officer position, Barvan would use the computer in front of him to analyze the disposition of the enemy forces. At this point, Barvan did not know who or what they were facing, though he could probably deduce their goals and the means by which they could complete them. As he was doing that, he came up with an idea.

“Captain sir, I recommend we hail the enemy to either ascertain their full intentions or to stall them as we prepare our battle plan. If they don’t respond to our hails, we’ll already have a good idea what they intend.”
