With a free afternoon before his first duty shift, Wolf took the turbolift to Deck 8. It didn’t take long to find the Counselor’s office. The warm wooden door with red light above it was a dead giveaway. Also, the sigh next to the door read, ‘Room 8-24 Counselor: Lieutenant T’Shain.’

The outer office was sparsely furnished with a few chairs near the door. A potted plant, an image depicting a forest in fog, and taupe-colored walls provided the proper aesthetic. There was an enlisted crewman on duty.

“Hello. I am Ensign Finn Wolf. I recently transferred aboard. When can I schedule a transfer evaluation?”

Lieutenant T’Shain had looked up and noticed that there was a young ensign standing in front of her doorway. “Welcome to the Manhattan Ensign, I am Lieutenant T’Shain. I am taking anyone and everyone to do their transfer evaluation right away. Please have a seat.” She offered a seat in front of her. “I’ve read over your file, it shows here that you’ve went thought the academy and manage to gradate at the top of the class. Very impressive. I also find it very logical for you to come in and see me. Please tell me, what I should know and what I should be aware of.” She replied back.

Wolf was taken back slightly. This Counselor was obviously pulling his leg. He entered and took the offered seat.

“I believe you are reading the wrong file, Lieutenant.” Wolf began, “I never attended Star Fleet Academy. I’m a grunt who had the good fortune to have an observant officer leading my battalion. He saw I had leadership skills and sponsored me to attend OCS (Officer Candidate School). The Manhattan is my first chosen assignment after graduating.”

“So, I assume you want to know about family, friends…contentious romantic entanglements? Ask away?”

She took it to a shock. “Well yes. Any previous traumas should I be aware of, any romantic ties with anyone, any loss of friends or family? You name it.” She asked and then said afterwards. As it is her job to ask.

Lieutenant T’Shain

“Currently, I am single and fancy free. So, no jealous lovers that have tracked me to the Delta Quadrant.” Wolf replied with a smile, “Of course If you know of any crewmembers whom I should get to know, then please let me know.” He added with a wink.

“My family hails from outside of Vaduz, Liechtenstein on Terra. I am the eldest of three. My father was a Liechtensteiner banker, so my family is used to having sneers and derisions directed towards us. We had a familiar estate in the Western mountains near the Austrian border. I have a brother and sister who are back on Terra.”

“While I have you here, do you have any thoughts on interacting with my boss, Lt. Kreeger? That guy is intense and seems to take his job VERY seriously.”

She looked at him. “Well ensign, I don’t know really much of the crew myself. I have just been recently assigned on board. I however, have been looking for a partner as well. However, interacting with others, I’ve not had the pleasure of doing. Now interacting with your boss, Lt. Kreeger. From my knowledge, as I sat here speaking to him before you, he seems to be well in human terms a chill man someone who is easy to get along with.” She stated.

Wolf didn’t flinch when the comely Counselor said “…I however have been looking for a partner as well.”

‘Did the Counselor on this ship just say what I thought she said?’ Wolf mused to himself as his eyes lingered just a bit too long on her high cheekbones, ‘Don’t think about it too much, Wolf. She seems to be out of your League. But it might be fun to step up to the plate and take a swing…’

While lost in his daydream Wolf was pulled back to reality when he heard her say something.

“Counselor, did you just say that Kreeger is a “…chill man?” That guy’s stare could freeze water. He is the furthest from ‘chill’ that I have ever met.”

“I am good at my job. I’m personable and have an attention to detail. My initial interactions with Kreeger tell me that he is an absolute rule follower. Well, a famous Terran war general once said: ‘If a man make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail’.”

“I think Kreeger will be one of these ‘slavish rule followers.’ Do you have any suggestions for helping me interact with the man?”
