The door to the CMO’s office to the right swished open and a Trill woman stepped out. She wore a medical uniform and had two full pips at her collar. She was reading a something on a pad when she noticed somebody sitting in the uncomfortable chairs of the waiting area in her peripheral vision. She stopped and looked up. One green and one amber eye fell on Marcus and her initially slightly confused look cleared into a smile.
“Hello there.” she said. “I’m sorry officer, it’s all still quite unorganised here. Whom are you waiting for if I may ask?” she said in a pleasantly deep timbre voice for a woman.
Dr Doctra, CMO
“Hello Doctor , I’m Lt Marcus Kane the new Chief Intelligence officer, I’m just here for my intial boarding medical”
He had noticed the different colour eyes straight away, there wasn’t much he didn’t notice , being an Intelligence Officer his whole caraeer he was trained to spot the small details that most didn’t see, it wasn’t a big deal with having Heterochromia eyes , It was the first time he had seen it himself though.

USS ManhattanValeria nodded. “Welcome on the Manhattan. I’ve also just arrived really, hence the chaos in here. Please, take a seat on that biobed.” she said, biting on her lower lip and wrinkling her forehead in mild annoyance with her personell. She pointed to the one to their right while grabbing a padd with his medical history and a med scanner.
“Anything I should know in case I have to patch you up?” she asked, running the scanner over his very handsomely shaped body. “And why does a ship need a CIO?” she asked and then immediately smacked her hand over her lips. Her eyes went wide and she blushed furiously.
“Oh I’m sorry that slipped out… I shouldn’t have said that… I just always wondered…” she stammered. Her facial features were an open book to Marcus, every emotion was clearly written over her features.
Dr Doctra, CMO
Marcus offered a polite nod as he moved toward the indicated biobed, settling onto it without fuss.
She watched him silently. He really was a prime specimen of the human race and she didn’t really need a scanner to see just how fit he was.
“Thank you, Doctor.”
He glanced briefly toward the medical scanner before answering her first question.
“Nothing significant that I’m aware of. No chronic conditions, no known allergies, and no medications beyond the occasional standard analgesic if the situation calls for it. My medical history should be fairly unremarkable.”
He paused as she asked why a ship would need a Chief Intelligence Officer. The subsequent apology brought the faintest hint of amusement to his expression.
“No need to apologise, Doctor. It’s a reasonable question.”
Marcus rested his hands loosely at his sides.
“Not every mission involves an obvious threat. Intelligence helps identify the ones that aren’t obvious. We analyse information from sensors, Starfleet Intelligence, diplomatic channels, local governments, historical records and whatever else becomes available. Sometimes my job is determining whether something is actually a threat before Security or Tactical has to deal with it.”
A small smile appeared.
“And occasionally, my job is telling the captain that the suspicious-looking asteroid really is just an asteroid.”
That caused her smile to broaden considerably, and as she glanced at him her mismatched eyes had a mischievous glint in them. She decided then and there that she liked him. He felt… safe somehow. Which was maybe strange for an intelligence operative.
She finished her scan and checked the Padd again. He allowed the comment to settle for a moment before continuing.
“In practical terms, I provide the captain and senior staff with assessments that help them make informed decisions. I’m not here to spy on the crew, if that’s what you’re wondering.”
She gave him another, longer glance, somewhat probing at that.
His attention returned briefly to the scanner.
“As for anything the medical equipment might find, I’m afraid you’re likely to be disappointed. I’m in reasonably good health. I exercise regularly, maintain my required physicals, and try not to give Sickbay too much reason to remember my name.”
He glanced toward the doctor with a faintly amused expression.
“Though I appreciate the thoroughness. I’d rather discover something here than during an away mission.”

USS ManhattanShe gave a low chuckle, a pleasantly slightly raspy sound, as she put the Pad away and turned back towards him.
“Well you are correct, your medical file is positively boring - in a good way - and you are in excellent shape.” she hesitated a moment, blushed slightly and added
“And I wasn’t wondering that, actually. I mean I know strictly speaking, spying on others is your job that you do for Starfleet Intelligence, not primarily our Captain…”she stepped a step closer and her green and her amber eye held his eyes “…but for some reason I trust you.” she said in a lower voice.
Then, quite instantly, she realised she might have become too personal with a patient and stepped back, looking away again, busying herself with putting away the equipment..
“Anyhow, you’re cleared for duty.” she said in a more neutral voice again.Dr Doctra, CMO
Marcus listened quietly, his expression remaining composed as the doctor explained the results of the examination. At the mention of his medical file being “positively boring,” a faint smile touched his lips.
“I’ll consider that a compliment, Doctor. Boring medical records are generally preferable to interesting ones.”
Her subsequent admission, however, earned a slightly different reaction. Marcus held her gaze for a moment, his expression thoughtful rather than uncomfortable. He had spent enough years reading people to recognise when someone had said more than they had intended.
He didn’t press the matter.
“Trust is an interesting thing,” he said quietly. “Particularly where Intelligence is concerned. I imagine most people assume we spend our time looking for reasons not to trust them.”
He gave a small shake of his head.
“I’d rather give people a reason to trust me.”
Marcus slid from the biobed and straightened his uniform, retrieving his PADD.
“And for what it’s worth, Doctor, you don’t need to worry about having said too much. We’re all new aboard the Manhattan. I think a little honesty is probably healthy.”
A hint of amusement returned to his expression.
“Besides, if I intended to spy on the CMO, I’d imagine you’d notice eventually.”
He offered her a polite nod.
“Thank you for the examination, Doctor. And for the clearance.”
With that, Marcus tucked the PADD beneath his arm, ready to continue with the final steps of getting himself settled aboard the Manhattan.

USS ManhattanAs Kane turned to exit Sickbay, he almost bumped into an elderly gentleman, with white hair, wrinkles of wisdom across his face, and wearing medical blues under a white lab coat.
Startled, he exclaimed, “Oh!! Lt. Kane, I’m Dr. Kildare, ready to do your physical and make sure you’re ready for duty.”
He turned town the red-headed Trill woman and added, “Unless, you’ve already completed it, Lt. . .?”

“Oh sorry Doctor Kildare, the lovely Doctor Doctra already took me for my boarding medical, I’ve had a clean bill of health , Sorry if you feel your time was wasted”
He said taking a look at the door
“I’m really sorry but I really need to get on”
Marcus said to Doctor KIldare before leaving sickbay
OOC: Sorry Capt , I know we discussed you doing it but ya know :-)
