Arrival of Sub-Commander TuvockStardate: 2402.7
The turbolift doors opened onto Deck 1, revealing the command level of the USS Manhattan. Unlike the bustling research decks below, the uppermost deck carried a quieter atmosphere.
Purposeful.
Focused.
Every movement reflected the responsibility carried by those who served at the heart of the vessel.
Tuvock stepped out of the turbolift alongside Lieutenant Kreeger, his eyes briefly observing the layout of the command deck. The arrangement was efficient, designed to provide immediate access to critical information while maintaining the calm necessary for command decisions.
The Vulcan adjusted his uniform jacket slightly before proceeding toward the Captain’s Ready Room.
He paused outside the door as Kreeger initiated the communication.
=^= KREEGER TO CAPTAIN COULTER:
“The new Diplomatic Attaché has arrived, sir, and is in your ready room, Captain.” =^==^=Show him in, Mr. Kreeger. Thank you.=^= came a gravelly voice from the comm.
Tuvock remained composed as he waited for authorization to enter.
His thoughts briefly reflected on the significance of the moment.
The USS Manhattan represented a continuation of Starfleet’s oldest traditions: seeking knowledge, establishing understanding, and creating connections with civilizations beyond Federation space.
This assignment would place him at the intersection of science, diplomacy, and security.
A position requiring balance.
The doors to the Ready Room opened.
The doors opened to reveal what at first glance appeared to almost be a museum dedicated to late 20th century military equipment. Machine guns, automatic pistols, military plaques and framed awards lined the walls, including numerous Purple Hearts, a Medal of Honor and a Bronze star. Also, on the walls were framed pictures of Army military units. If one looked close enough, they would recognize a younger Capt. Colter with various military rank insignia on the uniforms.
Colter’s favorite item in the collection sat by itself, almost reverently. It was an US Army M24 sniper rifle. The weapon he used to get him safely through the Eugenics War.
Tuvock stepped inside with measured precision, stopping at an appropriate distance from the Captain’s desk.
He stood at attention, hands clasped behind his back.
TUVOCK:
“Captain Coulter.”A respectful Vulcan nod followed.
TUVOCK:
“Major Tuvock of the Vulcan High Command. I have arrived aboard the USS Manhattan as assigned.”A brief pause.
TUVOCK:
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Diplomatic Attaché and Federation liaison during this vessel’s operations in the Delta Quadrant.”Tuvock remained silent afterward, allowing the commanding officer the opportunity to address him.

Seated behind the desk was Capt. DaVinci Colter himself. A large muscular man whose every muscle was in perfect symmetry with its’ counterpart.
“Maj. Tuvock, welcome to the Manhattan. Please have a seat.”
Captain Daniel “DaVinci” Colter
Commanding Officer USS ManhattanLieutenant Kreeger acknowledged the order with a sharp nod, his expression remaining as composed as ever.
“Aye, Captain.”
Turning toward Tuvock, Kreeger stepped aside from the ready room doors and gestured toward the entrance with a professional courtesy.
“The captain will see you now.”
With that, the Chief of Security stood back to allow the Vulcan diplomatic attaché to enter, resuming his position just outside the ready room doors while remaining attentive to the bridge and available should the captain require anything further.

Tuvock stepped through the ready room doors with the measured precision characteristic of a Vulcan officer. His gaze moved deliberately across the room, taking in the collection of antique military artifacts without lingering on any single item. The rifles, sidearms, medals, and photographs each represented a different era of Human conflict, yet together they formed a logical narrative of a life shaped by duty, discipline, and survival. The M24 sniper rifle, displayed apart from the rest with unmistakable significance, drew a brief glance before he returned his attention to the captain.
The Vulcan inclined his head in a respectful greeting.
“Thank you, Captain Colter.”
Without unnecessary hesitation, Tuvock crossed the room and accepted the offered seat. His posture remained perfectly erect, hands resting calmly upon his knees as he regarded the commanding officer with the composed expression expected of a Vulcan diplomat.
“I appreciate your welcome. I have reviewed the Manhattan’s mission profile and personnel records during my transit and look forward to serving as your Diplomatic Attaché. I trust my experience in diplomacy, interstellar negotiations, and cultural mediation will prove beneficial to both the ship and her crew.”

People, places, and worlds yet to make contact with. I’m assuming you’ll be ready for the challenge? You’re expertise is going to have a big role in first contacts.”

Major Tuvock inclined his head slightly, the measured movement of a Vulcan who understood both the weight of the assignment and the expectations placed upon him.
“Captain, I appreciate your confidence in my abilities. My years of service have provided me with experience in diplomacy, cultural analysis, and the complexities that arise when two civilizations encounter one another for the first time.”
He paused for a moment, folding his hands behind his back.
“The Delta Quadrant remains one of the most significant opportunities for exploration in Federation history. However, exploration is not simply the act of discovering new worlds. It is the responsibility of understanding them. Each society we encounter will have its own history, traditions, beliefs, and concerns. A successful first contact requires patience, logic, and an appreciation that our presence may have consequences beyond our immediate understanding.”
Tuvock looked toward the viewscreen, considering the vastness of the region ahead.
“I will be prepared, Captain. My role will be to ensure that our curiosity does not become arrogance, and that our intentions are communicated clearly. The Federation has always succeeded when it approaches the unknown not as a conqueror, but as a neighbor seeking understanding.”
He gave a small nod.
“I look forward to assisting this crew in discovering what awaits us in the Delta Quadrant.”
