Glancing at the display on the lower level of Cargo Bay 3, Ka’sora noted that her her smaller crate was on the upper level. Moving around sections of crates to the ladder, she scaled the rungs easily, though, as usual, it would have been even easier in her own gravity. Her body felt tired today, and she made a mental note to go to Sickbay to have her levels checked. The wear and tear of the higher gravity on her soft tissues was a known issue, and if she was starting to feel weak, it meant it could spread into other areas, like her bones. Best to keep ahead of any issues.
Reaching the top, she stepped onto the mezzanine level, hunting for her crates amongst the stacked sea of crates. She wasn’t alone. There was a pair of engineers present, one up on the mezzanine and the other on the main deck, and she was adamant about staying out of their way. But their conversation was rather intriguing. She tried not to be nosy, but it was so very hard as they casually discussed their attempts at relationships. What was a social scientist to do but mentally take notes? Besides, she had greeted them upon entry, so they knew she was there. If they hadn’t wanted to be overheard, they would have changed the topic.
Finding her smaller crate, she keyed in the code and the locks made a satisfying click. The contents were not personal effects, per say, but she could understand how someone might think so. Inside were various Zaharan cultural items, many used in rituals or gatherings. Things that might be useful to have on hand for a demonstration, or if she wanted to host an event here. Items that made perfect sense when you remembered she was a sociologist and also a defacto ambassador for her people.
Pulling some small items out, Ka’Sora slipped them into a cloth bag that hung from her shoulder. They didn’t weigh much, so they wouldn’t be a problem to get back to her quarters. She resealed the crate and went to move back towards the ladder to find the second crate where she had stashed a box she needed.
The engineer up on the mezzanine with her was carrying a couple of cases in his arms that seemed heavy. He was taller than she, and his cases were sitting about the height of her head. He was moving towards her and shifted his head to and fro to make sure he was moving forward safely. The mezzanine was wide enough for crates on other side of what amounted to an ‘aisle’, and it narrowed by the ladder (the door to Deck 9 was on the opposite) into a safe access to climb up or down as needed.
She caught his eye as he peeked around his load, and they both instinctually side stepped each other. Unfortuantely, they did so at the same time and int eh same direction. They saw this and corrected in the opposite direction, only to both do so again and step into each other’s path.
Ka’sora laughed. “You just want me to hang around, now don’t you?” she teased.
He chuckled.” Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine, really. I’m just heading down to the lower level,” she said. He turned his body to allow her to access the ladder.
All told, it was a series of unfortunate events. First, as he turned, he didn’t realize his elbows were sticking out in order to hold the cases steady, so as Ka’sora tried to slip by, she had to shift to the side a bit. Second, he turned to continue forward. His elbow knocked her arm. Ka’sora was mid-step and as his arm hit her, she spun backwards. Ka’sora tried to correct her balance (which she was naturally good at), but as she often found in this heavier gravity, her reaction time was slower.
It all happened so fast! She was falling and turning, but she saw the ladder and shot her right arm out to grab a rung. Her hand made contact adn she gripped tight. But she was falling. Pain erupted from her right shoulder and her vision blurred as she cried out. Everything went fuzzy for a moment.
The next thing she knew was volleys of pain all over her body. She had stopped moving and it was hard to breathe. Her vision was swiming and she couldn’t focus on anything.
A voice sounded close to her head. “Don’t move, help is on the way!”
That was okay, Ka’Sora wasn’t intending to do anything of the sort.
Lt. (j.g) Katrice Alemna tapped her commbadge. =/\=Lieutenant Alemna to Sickbay. Medical emergency in Cargo Bay 3, Deck Ten level.=/\=
Meanwhile Brad had set down his cases and scaled down the ladder as fast as he dared. He rushed over to the Zaharan noting the awkward angle at which she lay on the deck. She was chest down, her right arm spayed out in such a way that he guessed it was at least dislocated. “I’ll grab a med kit,” he said, hoping medical got there fast enough that they didn’t have to do too much. He pulled out a tricorder and ran it over her. Yeah, this wasn’t good, but he also could only read the basics. At least she was still breathing. For now.

Moments later the doors parted and the medical team came rushing in. Dr. Astor looked around, surveying the scene, and saw Ensign Ka’Sora laying on the deck. He quickly rushed over, gesturing for the team to follow with the gurney, and pulled out his tricorder as he approached.
“Ensign, it’s Doctor Astor, we’re here to help. Please don’t move unless I tell you to. Are you able to speak?”
Her eyes fluttered at his voice but she didn’t respond beyond a strained huff.
He ran the probe of his tricorder over her body and glanced down at the readings.
Several things jumped out at once, namely her fully dislocated right arm that included torn ligaments, tendons and muscles around the joint, and the many broken bones. She had fractured ribs (including one complete fracture) creating a flail chest, fractured right hand (scaphoid and radial head), hairline fractures to both knees, and a skull fracture to her left temporal bone that extended into the parietal. She had cerebral contusions, and was bleeding from the skull fracture, as well as the many areas that had hit the deck. There was also a fracture of her left cheekbone. There were micro fractures along her left arm as well. In addition, the now free floating rib had nicked her right lung.
Her blood oxygen was low, respirations low, heart rate high, blood pressure was dropping and intercranial pressure was rising. She was still conscious (but barely) and in a great deal of pain.
Based on the variety of injuries, it seemed likely that her body’s natural instinct to right itself as it fell made her try to find her feet, but she was not moving fast enough to complete the motion.
“I need a couple of immobilizers please,” he said to the NE’s, holding out his hand for the instruments. “Ensign, we’re going to take care of you.”
The instruments were handed over. Ka’Sora murmured something in her native tongue that wasn’t quite distinguishable.
Then, turning to Alemna and Brad, he said, “Tell me what happened, please.”
Dr. Astor - CMO
Brad shook himself out of his shocked state. “Umm, we were passing each other on the mezzanine and she was about to go back down the ladder, but I think I accidentally nudged her with my elbow. She lost balance and tried to grab something. She somehow managed to grab a ladder rung but only for a second before she cried out in pain and fell the rest of the way.”
Alemna was shaking her head in shock. “It happened so fast and she was turning in the air.”
Noah nodded, “Thank you lieutenants. I will need you to file a report on that by the end of your shift please.”
“Of course, Aleman said.
For Ka’sora, the pain overrode everything. She could sort of hear voices, even amongst the pounding in her head. “Taas,” she whispered before darkness overtook her and she fell unconscious.

Looking at the vital signs and the various fractures he decided to quickly try to stabilize her here before heading up to Sickbay. He tapped his comm badge =/\= Astor to Sickbay, prep Bay 1 for trauma surgery, we will be up there shortly =/\=
He glanced at her weight on the tricorder and then held out his hand to the other officers, “Hypospray with 20 ccs of inaprovaline and 1 cc morphenolog please.”
NE Swift read back the order and handed the hypospray over which Noah administered, watching for her vitals to stabilize. He knew that her species had certain evolutionary processes that could preserve their functions in some situations but with the amount of trauma her body had experienced he was going to need to repair some things before allowing that process to take place.
The inaprovaline bolstered her vitals a bit and the morphenolog eased the intense pain that made her body tighten up, even in an unconscious state. This is turn allowed her heart rate to improve even more.
“Ok, we are going to reduce a couple of these fractures back to neutral position and then immobilize her to get her on the gurney,” he said. “NE Swift, I’m going to need you to hold the tricorder for me so I have both my hands free to manipulate the reductions. NE Sharpe get the transfer board ready we will roll her after I set her limbs.”
The NE’s nodded and carried out their assignments. Noah carefully moved her limbs back to neutral positions, guided by the tricorders scanners, and then placed immobilizers to prevent further tissue damage. He decided to wait to reduce the dislocation until they were back in sickbay and could get her distal injuries stabilized before having to yank on her shoulder. Once he was satisfied he directed the two NEs to their positions and they were able to roll the ensign onto the board and get her up on the gurney. He took another glance at her vitals and set the gurney to a light stasis.
“Alright,” he said nodding again to the two NEs, “Let’s move.”
They headed for the door and up to Sickbay.

Her body wasn’t moving oxygen well, but she was a little better than before the med team had arrived, so there was that. At least unsconcious, Ka’Sora was blissfully unaware of how bad the situation actually was.
