“Obviously, the request can be denied and individual comfort levels are always taken into account, but yes, that phrase would somewhat fit. But for you it’s a side note, a alternative, whereas for us it is the norm. It is actually much rarer for Zaharans to form pair bonds. It does happen, but it’s even rarer for those pairs to last a lifetime.” Ka’Sora looked up at him. “We don’t have legal marriage. Community recognized pairings, yes, but it has no bearing on your status as an individual.” It was a toss up how people reacted to this bit of information, though at the Academy she had found people tended towards curiosity rather than discomfort.

That’s very interesting,” Sebastian replied. “I think some other cultures would benefit from that concept. For me, as an Intel agent, I have practiced that idea as a part of my work, as well for pleasure. The art of seduction can be an effective tool in interrogations.”

“So, in your culture is the act of copulation used more for reproduction or pleasure?”

Some might feel embarrassed by such an open question, but Ka’Sora had an advanced degree in sociology and her studies had bene both academic and practical. She could have this conversation with him without it having to be or mean anything in particular. “Both,” she said as they neared the Quartermaster’s supply room.

Ka’Sora paused at the door and gave Sebastian a lop-sided smirk. “Though you’re the Intelligence agent. I’m surprised you haven’t delved into the information on my people.” With a small chuckle under her breath, she stepped into the room to gather the discreet supplies they would need to be safe. Was she teasing him? Serious? She’d let him guess and see where that took them.

Sebastian chuckled as well. “I started to, but there was a lot to read (OOC: And I mean a lot. You put some serious thought into that info!!). I figured the best way to learn about your society and culture, AND you, was to go stright to the source. It’s much more pleasant this way then reading about it from a report.”

The CIO took his supplies and checked everything over to make sure it was all in working condition.

“This way, if there is something I’d like further explanation on, you can tell me straight out.”

Ka’Sora took a moment to go over her own equipment before they readied to leave. She tossed him a smirk. “See, this is where the challenge lay, yes? For all you know, something you say could be a severe insult or be asking to mate, when all you mean is to give a compliment. One has to be careful with a culture you don’t know. Hence why we are going to be very careful on the surface, yes?” But even as she teasingly lectured him, there was a thread of excitement in her eyes.

“Ah, yes, but where’s the fun in knowing everything? That allows for some improvisation, and that’s even more of a rush, a thrill. Alas, on this mission we do need to play by the rules to, hopefully succeed.”

Having checked everything and seeing that Ka”Sora had as well, Sebastian turned to exit the armory. He paused to let the ensign go first (he could be a gentleman when the need arose). Once in the corridor, he continued the conversation.

“Now this, this here between you and I, has room for goofs, and mistakes which can become funny stories that e can look back at and laugh.”

“For example. let’s saaaayy, I am interested in mating with you, hypothetically, of course, and I present myself to you as a possible partner. But not knowing the proper etiquette, I may instead present myself as wanting to . . . .say, wear your fur as a bath robe . . . .no, bad example and kinda creepy. Um, how about. . . i want to fill your shoes up with chocolate and peanut butter and eat it with a spoon. Now, peanut butter and chocolate is a classic combination you can never go wrong with, but eating out of a shoe is not something I would make a habit out of . . . .

She gave him a sideways glance as they walked along the deck. He said the most unusual things, or half of the things he said she needed more context for. It was as perplexing as much as it was interesting. “I do not know what peanut butter is, but I have heard of and tasted chocolate before. And I can’t think of anyone I’m met or read about that would eat out of their footwear. Far too messy,” she deadpanned.

“Exactly, that’s the absurdity of the comment. No one I know would want to do that. . . unless it’s a brand new shoe, maybe Wait a minute, you’ve never had peanut butter? After this mission, you and I are going on a date and indulge on PB n C. But I digress.”

She blinked. A date? That Human concept. Interesting.

Sebastian stopped in the corridor and faced her.. “Back to copulation. In Earth culture, there are many ways to say you have a desire to have s3x with someone. Of course, the most used phrase would be ‘to make love’. That’s usually shared between two people that have a deep connection with each other. Another one, that doesn’t have as deep a meaning is ‘sleeping together’, but you’re not really sleeping and it would be wrong if one person was sleeping.”

He turned and continued down the corridor. “And then, there are the crude phrases, which are usually spoken when there’s really no emotional connection involved, just pure, unadultered passion and desire. Phrases like ‘doing the horizontal bop’, ‘making the two-backed beast’, or ‘bumping uglies’.”

Ka’Sora arched her green brows and smirked. “Interesting phrases. I don’t know though, it sounds to me that having such… provocative phrases indicates a less open attitude or beliefs. I’m of course viewing this from my own perspective, but my observations around the topic while I was at the Academy made it seem like there were taboos against some aspects fof the conversation. Am I reading too far into it?”
