Ka’Sora wiggled her fingers as her ears twitched, which was about as excited a gesture as someone else clapping there hands while bouncing. “Oh! See, the counsellor and I have planned to swap cooking for each other as well, so maybe when it’s my turn I do something for everyone? Well, anyone who wants to,” she said with a laugh. “But what to make. I am aware that there are many preferences and outright dietary issues to factor in.” She pressed her finger tips to her lips. “Hmm, well, something to research and consider before I decide what to make. Though I’ll take any suggestions for what to avoid if you have them.”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“My only advice, don’t worry about making something that everyone can eat. Simply make a little card that explains what is in it and how it is prepared. Then people can decide for themselves if it is something that they want to eat. If they can’t, but still want to try something from your homeland, they will come talk to you about it.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
Ka’Sora nodded eagerly. “That’s good advice, thank you,” she said, all but vibrating with excitement. But what to make? That was going to take some serious consideration.
She leaned in towards Shedda. “If you could serve any of your favourite foods to the crew, what would they be?”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“Oh, my father’s chili, Cho’otok’s bread, Yarla’s vwotik juice.” Shedda smiled. “We had these large village dinner’s and everyone would bring something to share.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
She grinned. “Sounds familiar. Back home, sometimes there was a plan for a meal, like a hunting party had gone out and came back with something and we
d build a meal around that, but quite often people would just make a bunch of food, go down to the community level and share with whomever wanted to. I think that’s the thing I miss most in Starfleet. Yes, we can eat communally, but it’s different, you know? People come in, replicate a meal they want and sit and eat it. Sometimes socially, sometimes not. It’s not bad at all, just… different.”~Ensign Ka’Sora
“It is. That’s not a bad idea though. Maybe chances for more communal meals. I’ll have to think about that. Thank you, Ensign.” That was a good idea. She and Cochrane met regularly for meals, and it created an outside of duty connection. That was something they should think about extending.
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
She grinned and then laughed lightly. “You know, it’s funny that the three conversations I’ve had with people outside of work have ened up revolving around food. Now I’m torn between cooking a meal for everyone in the lounge and hosting an event on the holodeck in the simulation of one of our villages. You know, give everyone the full experience, lighter gravity and all.”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“Well food is a sort of unifier. I’m sure whichever you pick will be well received. So what drew you to science? What is your specialty?”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
“Sociology, though I minored in Anthropology during my undergraduate studies,” Ka’Sora said, her golden eyes glimmering. “Though specifically, my research is about social change and development in different species and how they are affected by technological changes and development. My own people’s history just…” She shook her head, trying to find the right words. “Fascinated me, I suppose is the simplest way to describe it.”
“What about you, Commander?”
