The newly disguised Commanding Officer entered the conference room and took his seat. He pulled up all available information on the planet and the culture there, and then tapped the comms =/\= Cochrane to Away Team and XO. Meet in the Conference Room in ten minutes for final prep for mission embarkation. =/\=Cochrane, CO
The sound of his voice had just barely faded when the doors opened and Shedda walked in. She stopped and gave him a once over. “Dr. Hudson does good work. You’re excited.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
Cochrane laughed and said “He does. And yes I am. I was hoping the new face would hide it better.” He looked at the display of the information gleaned from the planet ‘s communications, libraries, and archives. “How similar to Vulcan are these people, Shedda? And do you think my familiarity with Vulcan culture will help us, or muddy the waters so-to-speak?”
Cochrane, CO
“I think maybe I just know you well by now, Captain.” Shedda moved to her chair and sat. “I think that it may help you in observing and getting a base line for what is naturally their culture and what may have been influenced. But even if you are 99% certain something is Vulcan and know what to do, proceed with caution. Sometimes even subtle difference are a big deal.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
Ka’Sora moved into the conference room as the XO was speaking and grinned. She was eager to learn about a new culture and Shedda was absolutely right. “Knowing if there are regional differences might help us explain any oddities in our behaviours,” she said, taking a seat neat to Mal’athar. She didn’t even hesitate given that she was not a member of the senior staff, but at this point her mind was running through all the things they would need to keep in mind. At least she had forgotten to be nervous around the captain.
“The one thing I personally need to know is about the planet. What is its gravity?” It might not matter for the others, but for her it could be the difference between feeling more at home, same-as-usual- and feeling like she was dragging herself through mud.
~Ensign Ka’Sora
Sebastian had slipped into the conference room besides Ka’Sora having enjoyed thier conversation and getting to know each other on the way here. He grinned at her excitement on learning new things about different cultures.
His face became serious as he addressed the command team. “Captain, Commander,” he said stoically before taking a seat.
The planet had similar gravity to Earth, if slightly higher, roughly 1.23_g_.
Gamemaster Amdirgol
GMT“All indications show they are very welcoming of those different and forgiving of any social oddness that might cause. Pick a distant location and claim that as your origin and hopefully that covers any differences.” Shedda glanced at her PaDD, “Gravity is 1.23 g’s.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
Ka’Sora sucked in a breath and her ears pressed closer to her head. For others that might not seem like a huge difference, but for her? She would manage but it was going to take extra effort. Afterwards, well, that was going to be interesting. She would just need to be extra careful.
The XO’s remarks about the locales made it seem like they had quite a bit of info to work with. That was good. At least she could distract herself with the actual exciting part of the away mission.
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“Ok, Commander. Any suggestions as to where we say we are from?” Cochrane asked while looking at the planetary map.
Cochrane, CO
OOC: Sakai is working on getting that information on the bridge thread. If the GM could just copy that information here when he posts the answer on the bridge. Thanks!
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
The fact that the Molkaen had a unified world government made the request trickier than it might have been, but a large island in the northeastern region of the planet was still relatively isolated. Many of the cultural values were the same, though they were notably more private / culturally introverted than the planetary average.
Gamemaster Amdirgol
GMTOOC: Thank you! Do we have a name for this region/island or do we make one up? :)
From her seat, Shedda keyed into the controls on the table, bringing up an image of the planet. “Here,” she said focusing in a large island in the the northeastern region of the planet. “There is a unified world government, but this area is still relatively isolated. Most of the cultural values appear to be the same, but the people from this area are more private and culturally introverted than the average for the planetary society.”
Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO
Ka’Sora studied the map, a look of concentration sweeping over her face. “What sort of groups would travel together that we could pose as? There are many ways we can play this out, but we need to be clear about the scenario so that
She frowned slightly. “But uh, one other question that seems important: what’s our objective? Or do we need to wait for the others to discuss that?” Ka’Sora was anxious to get information. This was her speciality after all, but she’d had almost no information and wasn’t even sure what she was meant to be doing on this away mission. It was great to observe, and she would gladly do that, but were they doing more?
~Ensign Ka’Sora
Bjarke ducked under the doorway as he entered his smile was wide and confident. “Sorry I’m late, they had some getting the alterations right.” he said moving into the room and taking a seat. He reviewed the notes on his PaDD and took a look at the map.
Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché“An excellent question, Ensign.” Cochrane said. “We will be trying to ascertain if this world was influenced by outside forces before they were ready, according to the Prime Directive. We will also be cataloguing information to determine if a First Contact mission is applicable. If so, we will return here, change into something more comfortable, and then make contact with the unified government via comms. Questions, anyone?”
Cochrane, CO
“Seeing as this group has been isolated, for the most part, we could go in as representatives wishing to open communications in an effort to become part of the global system,” the Intel Chief suggested. “That could explain any cultural faux pas we might commit while there. We can always come clean later if this turns into a first contact.”
Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS ManhattanBjarke (Byaka) thought about what the man was suggesting with some intensity. “Sir” he said addressing the CIO. “I understand your thought process and for a time it might give us an option for communication” he noted. “However long term it could cause us diplomatic problems posing with authority we do not have, the level of technology would suggest that they could verify out credentials” he turned to look at the captain. “I would recommend observation until we know more before engaging with them too much. “
Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché“That’s why we have a diplomat aboard, L. T., to sort out that whole mess after we get done mucking it all up.”
“Commander, just how isolated is ‘isolated’ for that island? Do they comms with the rest of the planet? If so, just have our comms people block their signal for the time we’re there. That should keep them from checking our story,” Sebastian asked of the XO.
Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS Manhattan
“Isolated as in their customs are different, but they are still members of the global government,” Mal’athar clarified.
Cochrane looked at the CIO and said “That is a lot more interference than we should be comfortable with, Commander.” He then looked at their new Diplomatic officer. “I agree with the Lieutenant. The less interference and subterfuge, the better. If we are going to make contact later, we don’t want to start our relationship with distrust or dishonesty. No. We will go down, research what we can of the technological advancement that occurred, see if we can ascertain what happened, and if we need to present ourselves. Otherwise, we will log the civilization for further observation and leave them to their own devices. Understood, everyone?” he asked the last question with a direct and not-at-all subtle look to the Intelligence Chief.
