Eilah stepped off the turbolift and entered sickbay, smiling when he looked at Ben. “Hey Doc. I’m ready for my make over. Make sure it’s good,” he said and grinned playfully.~ Fayth, COS
Cochrane stood by one of the bio beds and was looking at a PaDD. He looked up as Fayth came in and said “Commander. Perfect timing. The Doctor is prepping for the procedure. The rest of the team should be here momentarily.”
Cochrane, CO
The Sickbay doors slid open and Ka’Sora stepped in slowly and looked around. Seeing the group gathered, she approached warily, trying to suss out the situation. After all, it wasn’t everyday she got called to Sickbay unless there was a problem that concerned a recent tests of hers or something, so seeing senior officers (including the captain!) was a little unnerving. “I was asked to come to Sickbay?”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
The Captain looked at her and said “Hello, Ensign. We have a… opportunity… that I believe could do with your perspective. I have assigned you to the Away Team that is going to go planet-side and attempt to ascertain if and how this planet and it’s civilization have been influenced by an outside source. We will be disguising ourselves as members of the local populace and seeing what we can find out. Does that sound like something you can assist with? And yes, this is a covert First Contact… ish… mission.”
Cochrane, CO
Her golden eyes lit up and a grin tugged at the corners of her mouth. “Oh, I think I can definitely help with this scenario.” She wiggled her tall tapered ears and ran a hand over her green hair. “What do these people look like? Will I be able to blend in?” What do we know about them so far? What is their current level of development What indications of external involvement do we have?” she asked in rapid-fire succession. How fortuitous that her own people had had external ‘help’ with their development!
~Ensign Ka’Sora
Cochrane chuckled and said “We are all getting some temporary cosmetic adjustments made to blend in. That’s why we are meeting here. As to your questions, those will be covered in the mission briefing before we leave.”
Cochrane, CO
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Ben said with a grin as he looked at his three… ‘patients’? He wondered if there was a better term than that… certainly guinea pig was probably not something to call the Captain. ‘Don’t bust me’, he thought to himself, well aware that Eilah would be hearing his inner monologue.
“We’ll start off with a small amount of prosthetics to adjust your facial structures, followed by some subdermal pigmentation to adjust skin tones, and then contact lenses for the eyes.” he said, handing each of the guinea pigs a PaDD which showed a representation of what each of them would look like after the procedure.
“And then the rest will be down to the costume department.” he said with a grin.
Lt. Hudson
Chief Medical OfficerGuinea pigs? Eilah was grinning, but the others would think he was mildly amused by the mission. But Ben could hear him. I won’t… But you owe me. Then, aloud, he said, “As long as I look good. Oh, and if it’s possible, can my contacts be light? After all black, having light eyes would be interesting.”
~ Fayth, COS
Ka’Sora looked at the modifications planned and grinned. That was absolutely fantastic! How often did a brand new ensign get to be involved not only in an away mission but one potentially as a first contact. It was a sociologists dream! “What about my ears? Would my long hair covering them be enough?”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“We can’t take chances on them being seen if a wind gust moves your hair. But I’m sure the Doctor can make all necessary modifications, don’t you worry.” Cochnare said. The excitement in the Ensign was palpable; and he had to admit a certain level of it in himself as well

Able watched as the other officers seemed to make lite of the mission they were about to embark on but he was nervous. Able looked up, hoping to sound convincing, and said, “I hope we don’t find anything too out of the ordinary down there “
Nightroad, Engineer
“That’s what keeps things interesting, ensign. You don’t want to be bored on an away mission, do you? That’s when mistakes happen,”Sebastian replied.
“Boring is exactly what I want,” Eilah interjected, shaking his head at the CIO. “Boring is safe. Mistakes are prevented with vigilance.”
Cochrane looked at him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Ensign, everything there will be out of the ordinary… at least for us. But it is imperative we act as if everything is normal. First Contact missions are among the most difficult and complex missions Star Fleet personnel can experience. They can be greatly rewarding or absolute career killers.” He dropped his hand and then said to the entire assembled team “Be cautious. Be observant. And try to stick with one another. There is safety in numbers.”
Cochrane, CO
The CIO patiently waited for his turn. When it finally came, he hopped onto the bio bed and, “Nothing permanent, Doc. This is my money maker, (pointing to his face) and I can’t have it damaged.”
Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS ManhattanEilah took a seat and relaxed, leaning back. “I can wait, take your time with everyone, doc.”
~ Fayth, COS
Ka’Sora watched the interplay with great curiosity. Her tall ears flicked and her gold eyes gazed at d’Aramis with slight confusion. “Money maker? How does your face earn you income? I thought the Federation didn’t use currency unless it interacted with those that do?” There was no judgment, just a deep interest in understanding an apparent aspect of the culture she found herself in that she had not come across thus far.”
~Ensign Ka’Sora
Ben chuckled at the question. “Well, even if it does earn you money, it’s not my cup of tea,” he said, grinning as he started to make the changes to d’Aramis’s face. “And don’t worry, I’ll make sure Nurse Houlihan will recognise you when I remove the adaptations.” he continued as he put the last touches in place.
“No problem, Doc. I understand I’m not everyone’s cup of tea,” Sebastian replied as he looked at Hudson and then slightly nodded in Faith’s direction. “Everyone has their own preferences.”
He turned to Eilah. “This face however…” he trailed off with a grin as he started adjusting the contours of his forehead, and giving him a similar set of slightly pointed ears as he had given the other crew members.
Lt. Hudson
Chief Medical OfficerCochrane watched the process and nodded in approval. As each member of the Away Team was disguised, Cochrane checked details against file pictures and known physiology. It wasn’t his first time on a mission of this nature; but preparations never got any less complex.
Cochrane, CO
After hopping off the biobed, the CIO walked over to Ka’Sora and gently took her chin in his hand, moving her head slightly to the left and right.
Ka’Sora was startled by the sudden;y contact but her surprise quickly turned to intrigue and the Zaharan allowed him to do… whatever it was he was going to do.
“You’ve got quite the money-maker yourself ensign. See, it’s like this . . . . .”Sebastian smiled as he began the explanation of his words.
“You’re right, you don’t make money from having a pretty mney-maker . . . .well, some people do, like models, and actors and actresses. . . they get paid for just having a nice one of these,” he said circling his face with a finger.
“But for those of us not in that line of work, though you could be, we rely on our ‘money-makers’ to attract a partner, or mate. A pretty one is going to gain attention, and quite often is the thing that a potential mate will notice first, thereby being the ‘money-maker’. Does that make sense?”
Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS ManhattanShe grinned. “It does. Beauty is a concept we have on Zahara, but I can’t say it plays a huge role in people’s interactions. Especially given that most Zaharans don’t know which male contributed to their DNA.” Ka’Sora shrugged but there was a glint of amusement in her eyes, as if she was potentially challenging him with new info.
OOC: Hilarious! You’ve got her attention now! She’s far too curious for her own good. Just remember, you started it… LOL
~Ensign Ka’Sora
“Perhaps our time would be better spent learning about the current culture in question than in explanations of non-mission oriented jargon… eh, Commander?” Cochrane said, a slight disapproving edge to his words.
The CO looked at the CMO and said “Alright, Doctor… set me up.” with a grin.
Cochrane, CO
Able watched as the senior officers seemed to work well together and was still nervous going on this mission with them but knew he was taking up the mantle that the Chief Engineer would normally be doing. As he looked around at everyone, he said, “What is the culture that we will be interacting with?”
