After getting things settled in her dwelling (unpacking, building her walls and decorated was definitely going to take some time to deal with), the Zaharan set about tackling her boarding check-ins. She moved at her usual slower pace, mindful that even that short time back home had made the transition back to the higher gravity more of an adjustment than it would have been.

As she stepped into the medical space, she carried a PADD with her medical record, just in case it hadn’t made it ahead of her (which would have been a strange feat considering everything else relating to her would have). Her tall pointed ears flicked at the voices present and she tried not to eavesdrop, though it wasn’t something she could much help.

Seeing someone free, she approached with a smile. “Hello! Do you know who I would see about a boarding physical?” she asked, her gold eyes intense.

OOC: Her bio has some important info, but I would also highly recommend reading the Physiology section of the linked power/species doc for more context. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Aerin looked up from the Padd she was studying at the sound of the newcomer’s voice. She smiled in return (after a very brief expression of surprise flickered across her face and was gone almost too fast to note) and replied, “You must be Ensign Ka’Sora. Welcome to the Manhattan.” She held out her hand in greeting. “I’m Lt. JG Shaw but please call me Aerin.”

It was one of those things that she had gotten used to and actually got excited. After all, she was a sociologist and learning about and engaging in cultural rituals was important. Ka’sora’s ears flicked with anticipation and she grinned as she took the proffered hand with both her own and gave it a couple shakes. “Thank you, it’s so nice to meet you, Aerin!”

Secretly, she was also impressed by the number of people who addressed her properly. Actually, she was rather delighted and warmed by this fact and it made her feel at home more than she might have otherwise. “Did you need me to sit or lie down on the biobed? I know everyone is monitoring my bone density over time, but not sure what you want to do first, or how you want to go about the physical.”

“If you could just have a seat on the Biobed? This won’t take long at all, just a quick scan with the medical tricorder to start with. If everything looks good than that is pretty much it for the physical.” She paused to collect her tricorder and probe. “Technology can be pretty amazing, don’t you think?” she continued with a smile.

“It most certainly is,” Ka’sora said as she slipped up onto the biobed with slow and careful motions. “Did you know, on my world, we don’t have transporters or replicators. Certainly no holodecks. It was quite the experience when I first left Zahara to take the Academy entrance exam at one of the annexes. I’m used to it now, especially after my two years on Earth, but I was just back home and there was something”-she drew in a deep breath-“comforting about the very simple kind of life my community lives in an arboreal kijia.”

When scanned, Ka’sora appeared in good health. Her bone density was close to the new baseline she tried to maintain since joining Starfleet (the higher gravity and intense physical training had increased it by 5% since she left Zahara). The density was a tiny bit lower, but that wasn’t unexpected since she had spend a duration on her homeworld and had had to readapt in the last two weeks of travel to the Manhattan.

“Sounds peaceful, I would love to see it someday given the chance. Are visitors welcome on Zahara?” She asked as she completed the scan.

“Absolutely!” Ka’sora said. “We’re not members of the Federation and my world is quite far away, but we welcome visitors, especially in recent years with our Ambassador doing a lot of outreach.”
