It was hard to believe that it was time for Shedda to have another annual physical. Had she really been here that long? It didn’t seem like it. She’d settled into a routine, though there was nothing regular about it. She visited sickbay regularly for her hormone suppressants, but it was usually just a quick visit to let the doctor or nurse press the hypo to her neck and then she was on her way. Today she entered and waited quietly after informing the first person who asked she was there for her regular physical.Mal’athar, XO
A vulcan nurse looked up from one of the medical stations to the side of the main bay that Mal’athar had entered.
“Greetings, Ma’am” the nurse said, moving toward her. When she informed him she was there for her regular physical, the vulcan nodded. “Doctor Hudson is currently dealing with another patient,” he explain, “but we can start some of the preliminary scans. I expect he will be free shortly so he can continue with the medical, otherwise we can book you in to come back at another time.” he said. His logic, whilst irrefutable, came across as slightly patronising.

There was something comforting about the predictability of Vulcan logic. “I don’t mind waiting. My time is no more valuable than anyone else. Please lead the way,” Shedda said to the nurse.

T’Var tilted his head in a slight positive acknowledgement. “Please, this way.” He said, pointing toward one of the biobeds. He picked up a tricorder from a medical trolley near by and started to scan Mal’athar.

Shedda followed him over and sat on the biobed. She took deep even breaths while he started the scans. Her heart, blood pressure, and respiration looked good.

After a few moments of looking at the tricorder, T’var was satisfied with the results, and looked back at the XO. “Well, I cannot see any concerns from the scans.” he said, matter of factly. “What has been your physical state since your last medical?” he asked.
“I think what Nurse T’Var means is ‘how have you been feeling?’” chirped a voice from behind the two of them. T’Var blinked nonchalantly at the CMO. Ben mused whether there was a sense of disapproval in the glance he had received from the Vulcan. “Admittedly his question is probably more accurate.”
Shedda turned to look at the new voice, a hint of a smirk flitting across her lips and then gone before she turned back around.
“Thank you, Doctor” the Vulcan replied, as he handed the tricorder over.

“My physical state is much the same as my last physical. Though lately I have experienced some fatigue. Most likely from the prolonged disruption of my normal sleep cycle.” She turned to Hudson, “That is to say that I have not been able to take what humans call ‘naps’ that are a necessary part of my physiology.”
Mal’athar, XO
Taking a moment to process the information, Ben nodded understandingly, his brow furrowing slightly with concern. “Hmmm. We probably should try to find out what’s going on. If you’re not able to get the sleep you need, that will start to impact on your health.” He looked back at the medical scanner, comparing her current data to her last physical.
“Can you tell me when you started struggling to take naps?” he asked.

Shedda looked confused a moment and then grinned but managed to look apologetic at the same time. “Oh, I’m sorry doctor. I’m not having trouble sleeping or getting to sleep. I’m just busy and not able to.” Deeper scans would show the chlorophyll in her epidermal layers were not functioning as efficiently as they had at her last scan.
