William was flustered and had gotten lost at least three times and used the map to get himself unlost mostly successfully each time as he made his way to the ready room. The hallways seemed to go on forever and remembering which turn he had made before had gotten harder and harder but he got the hang of it. William had been informed that he needed to make sure to check in with the C.O. and he was one to follow the rules for the most part. He had taken the time to put his bag in his quaters at least so one less thing he had to worry about in a long list on the first day aboard such a ship as the Manhattan. When William finally found the ready room he sighed in relief. He straigtend his suit and then ran a hand through his blond hair before pushing the com to let the Captain know he was there. As he waited crewmen stared at him and he grinned.
“Just waiting to see the Captain,” William told them in his smooth british accent feeling like it was the first day of school all over again except the stakes were much higher.

When the chime rang, that came a voice, though slightly muffled by the door, stated “Enter” and the door responded by allowing entrance into the Ready Room. That meant the ready room was now his ready room, and it now reflected the ecclectic style of the Captain. There was a bookcase with actual books in multiple languages. There was a common thread among them, strategy and tactics, war and combat. To the right of the desk behind the Captain was a rounded bronze shield emblazoned with images of hearth and home. There appeared to be a sword and spear attached to said shield that were from the same era. On the left was a different type of shield more of a tear drop emblazzoned with a double barred cross on a field of white. This time the sword was settled into a rack above the shield. Near the door was a glass case with several models of ships, There was a stand marked Manhattan but it was currently Empty. On the opposite wall were a pair of paintings, one of a Sailing vessel having a battle at sea, and the other of Pendragon class Battleship fighting the Dominion. As the door swished open the Captain was seated behind the desk, reading from a PaDD. He was just under six feet tall, with long flowing blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail. Bright blue eyes twinkled in the lighting, and golden earrings glimmered at his ears. Looking up at his visitor, his voice was tinged with a bit of the british as well but so faint it might have been a ghost. “How can I help you Mr.?” Balian had not been expecting a civillian transfer, perhaps it was in the stack of dispatches he had yet to geta momnt to read.

Wiliam looked around as he entered the ready room. He hadn’t been prepared for what he saw, the place was unlike anything he had ever seen outside of a muesum. He grinned at the sword and shield and all the books, some of them he’d read. He gave a nod to the other very blonde man with eyes that mirrored his own. He reached out as if he were going to touch the shield then he thought better of it. Pulling his hand back William instead he glaced back towads the books a bit nervously as he realized he’s been gaping and hadn’t answered the man’s question. Which was not a good start to getting to know ones boss.
“I’m William Cunningham, and I’ve been order to report you as your new ship’s Counselor,” he replied and then he couldn’t help himself but pointed to the sword and sheild.
“You have an impressive collection,” William added as he gestured around the room also to the books. “I’ve read many of these myself, I find studying the past to be very helpful for planning for the future,” William said and then he picked up one of the books, ” Ah good old Helmuth Von Moltke, “No battle plan survives an encounter with the enemy”, or something along those lines, he did brilliant work.”

Balian rose and extended a hand, “Fleet Captain Barazan, but you can call me Balian(Bay Lee un), I have always preferred Clausewitz myself, or Tsun Tsu, Moltke had his place. Though Risen’s On Romulus is interesting, if you read Vulcan.” Balian stated tapping one of the PaDDs on the book shelf. “And you can touch the shields, they are real, and the blades servicable. Can I get you anything Mr. Cunningham?” The Captain looked to be in his mid forties but well aged, until you took a long look in his eyes then there was an undefinable quality of age to him.

William shook Balian’s hand firmly and gave him a warm smile. To think he had been a bit nervous to meet the captain and all the while he was so personable and down to earth. Not at all like some of the stuffy commanders he’d met before.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Balian, ’ William replied and then he grinned, “I read Vulcan well enough to get by,” William admitted, “and Roman strategy is always fascinating, they way they think about their battlefield like a living breathing thing is something to learn from,” he added and as he let the man’s hand go he looked once more to the shields and then sword.
“My I ask where you aquired thes? Is that what I think it this what I think it is…the shield ofAchellies?” William asked with a bit of awe in his voice.
