Daggum blushed again and then looked at the table before looking up at her. “Sorry… I j-… just… I mean I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. Or feel like.. well… anything other than happy to be here. And I won’t lie and say I haven’t thought about it before, but thats… you know… the future. Not right now.” and he smled and shook his head.
“I’m good with the present,” she said softly. Faye wasn’t sure pondering too much farther than that was a good idea given how easily overwhelmed she was these days. But if there was one thing she knew for sure is that being the present with Daggum was truly something wonderful and she was loathe to think about what happened when he had to go back to his ship. For now she intended to enjoy this week as much as she could.
“Now in a normal first date, this is where the guy orders a stiff drink and the girl says ‘Excuse me.’, goes to the bathroom and climbs out a window to get away form creepy weirdo.” and he took a drink.
Faye chuckled. “Dude, do I look like the kind of woman who crawls out the window?”
“Needs vodka.” and he grinned at her.

She grinned. “Makes me wish I had borrowed Alex’s stone. He’s got this rare stone that absorbs alcohol somehow. I was able to taste a really incredible wine and have a couple glasses. No intoxication,” she said making a horizontal slashing motion wit her hand. “It’s a neat trick, if an unfair puzzle to toss my way,” she said, her eyes all but gleaming as she took another generous sip of the cider.

Daggum’s eyes narrowed and he said “Now something like that could come in very handy, indeed. Wonder where he got it? Oh! How’s the mentoring going, by the way? You haven’t said much about it in a while.”
Daggum
Faye nodded slowly. “It’s… going. I’m just about to start a distance class on decision making in high risk situations before I do my Bridge Officer’s Test. Then I’ll probably get tossed into the night shift rotation for the bridge. Ask me how much I’m looking forward to night shifts. Probably going to have to switch up one of my medications or else I will be a wreck,” she said with a smaller grin, though her energy had faded slightly. “Last time I had my schedule mucked with I ended up forgetting my meds and started having withdrawals…” She shuddered slightly and tipped the last of the cider from her glass past her lips.

Daggum shook his head. “I wouldn’t worry too much about that, honestly. Third shift does suck, but for the first few weeks at least you’ll be manning the Second Officer’s station while the Skipper or XO is on duty. And the other great thing about third shift is that it’s quiet… usually… and you can work on your Command and Control procedures which are the biggest pain in the a$$.” and he chuckled. He looked at Faye and sighed.
“Procedures…” Faye shook her head. The rational part of her brain understood the need for them and how it made everything work efficiently (she loved herself some efficiency, but there was the rest of her that like to crave paths in unexpected ways. And maybe that was a strength but it could also be weakness when paired against people who were by the book. Faye could read, memorize and appreciate the book for what it was, but at the end of the day she’d easily toss it aside if she felt it was necessary.
“You are gonna be so so good Faye. I can see why Cochrane wanted to mentor you.”
Daggum
Her head tilted slightly and Faye looked at him askance. “Oh? I mean, sure I’m innovative and resourceful, and not easily intimidated. But I am a little wary of the poor commanding officer who one day gets me as a first officer.” She held a finger up. “Though that being said, if they pair us right, the person won’t have a stick shoved so far up their ass they won’t be able to appreciate my rogue nature,” she said with a gleam in her grey-green eyes. “I am an acquired taste after all.”

Daggum laughed as the first course arrived. He thanked the server with the food, and a second arrived with another bottle and two blue, rough-cut crystal glasses. Daggum nodded excitedly and thanked them. As they left, Daggum looked at Faye like a kid at Christmas. “Ok ok ok ok… this is the part I was really most excited about…” and he looked at Faye with an unhidden longing and then a smile, “… food-wise anyway. So… Vilsiturnan mineral water. It has to be served either in the bottle it comes in or the specific glasses here. Seriously… it’s a law there. And I’ll tell you why.” and he opened the bottle and handed it to her.
“Take a small sip, just enough for a taste.”
“Eh? Tastes just like any mineral water you’ve ever had, right? Little carbonation, little to no flavor. SO… when I pour this into your glass, you have exactly ten minutes to drink it, ok? Are you ready?”
