Daggum looked at the cat, his emerald eyes looking straight into the cat’s. He looked for a long minute before he said “Ok… that’s pretty freaking cute. I’m a fan.” and he smiled and looked at Faye. Even in the instant he did, his heart jumped and a shock went through his body. What is it about her that makes me feel like I’m being shocked in the best way possible? he thought to himself. His love for Faye radiated out of him and he said “Can I hold her?” and he held out a large green arm, more than wide enough to support the tiny ball of fur.

Daggum

“Of course,” Faye replied as she cradled Tess from underneath and handed her to Dag.

The half-ragdoll cat didn’t seem to mind being held at all, and in fact she relaxed quickly and all but draped over Daggum. With a little nudge of her nose on his arm, she began to purr.

Faye beamed and in watching the two together she couldn’t help but feel that all was right in the Universe. Tess was an unexpected part of her life and so was Dag. “Well, I think she likes you,” she said, reaching out to stroke Tess. “I think that means I’m allowed to keep you around,” she teased.

Dag stroked the cat’s fur and scratched gently behind her ears as she began kneading his arm lightly with her claws. “I guess so. She’s pretty cool, Faye.” and he leaned close to the cat and said “You’re gonna be my buddy, aren’t you? Make sure she’s taken care of while I’m not here? Yeah… and then I’ll come and bewith you both.” and he smiled. He looked at Faye and said “Why didn’t you bring her with you to the hotel? Wanted her to get used to the ship first or something?”

Still with a smile on her fact, Faye nodded and reached out to stroke Tess’ head. “It’s a new setting and I didn’t want to confuse her too much. Besides, I wasn’t intending to spend much time in my room and it was better for her to have people like my mom and my friend Kiama check in on her. Tess can get to know people who are connected to me and I don’t have to worry too much about her.” Faye glanced down at the floor. “My duty boot socks on the other hand…”

Moving her hand to rest on Daggum’s arm, she just gazed at him a bit and shook her head. “I’ll be back in a second. Just need to grab something.”

Slipping into her bedroom, Faye was running over the exchange in her mins as she always did. The smile slipped. He then he’d what?! Stopping dead in her tracks, Faye hadn’t even made it to her bedside table. He’d come and be with them both? But what did that mean? Her breath was caught in her throat, and her heartbeat loudly in her ears. Controlling her exhale, Faye blew it out slowly and moved to her bedside table finally and crouched as she opened the upper drawer, hunting for her quarry, though her motions were slower.

Meanwhile, out in the living room, Tess suddenly squirmed in Daggum’s arms, letting out a plaintiff mew.
