She inhaled deeply, allowed the breath to expand her chest fully the way she did when she did yoga. Faye nodded. “Always.” It had never ever been his fault the Romulans had captured her. Neither of them could have known that Nevol was being manipulated into learning all he could about the S.I. agent hanging out with the Reunification Movement. And neither of them could have predicted that he would then betray her and set her up to take the blame for the explosion on their orders.

Pacing felt good though, and despite the fact that calm would be better, she needed the movement to help her think. “I did everything you told me to. I followed their instructions. I kept my role secret despite how often I complained to you about how the orders didn’t make sense.” Here was the tricky part. If it really was Leroy and she lied to him right now, it could very well rip apart their working relationship and their friendship. But if this was imposter she risked a lot. She didn’t know what the right move was here, but she had to figure out what Leroy knew or didn’t know. She had to follow her gut. Her instincts had kept her alive for a long time now and she had to trust that. “And so I’ve kept going on, even after the accident in the jefferies tubes and people breathing down my neck about my work. But then a senior agent shows up telling me that Intelligence has suspicions about illicit activity. About my illicit activity.” She spun towards him, her stormy eyes ablaze with fury. “ME! The woman who survived the Tal Shiar! Who agreed to this new assignment on the Manhattan even though the idea of having secret orders made me feel ill. But you reassured me everything would be okay. That it wouldn’t be for too long. And now I’m being accused of sharing information with foreign parties. It’s fvadt and we both know it!”

But she drew back away from the forcefield, looking ashamed, tears slipping down her face. “And then I panicked. I did screw up, Leroy. I don’t even know what happened, but the next thing I knew I fired a phaser and ran. I just… I can’t do it again,” she said, chocking back a sob. “I can’t be the woman who is innocent but no one will believe. I can’t be a prisoner again. Imirrhlhhse!! she cursed in Rihannsu. Nope, it seemed calmness was not how she was able to play this. Then again, that shouldn’t surprise him too much.

Faye sank onto the bench and shook her head. “I’m screwed. No two ways about it.”

“I know, I know… Faye. You’ve done exactly what you are supposed to do. And you’ve done it well. No one can begrudge you that… at all. You followed orders and you will not get hemmed up because of it. I can promise you that. Now… take a breath and try and calm yourself down. I need you to think, Faye. Does anyone else know your true purpose for being on the Manhattan? Anyone at all. If you and I are going to clean this up, we have to know what we are dealing with first. I don’t want a repeat of the Nevol incident.” he said with no small amount of venom in his voice.

Blue

She hated the forcefield between them, though the rational part of her brain kew it kept her safe. Still… this was Leory, right? The space between them seemed… weird. “Stop telling me to calm down,” she muttered loudly enough for him to hear her.

Faye sighed. “I didn’t have much of a choice. When they confronted me about the possible charges, I tried to explain the situation, that they should talk to you and Deputy Director Yi. So Cochrane and Creed know about my assignment, but I’m not sure they actually believed me. For all I know, they thought it just my way of distracting them from the situation.”
