Science Ensign Amon Maher awoke and said, “Owww…”

A sharp pain registered in his right wrist and left leg. The rest of his body just ached with bruising pain. “Lieutenant Veyn Cewa! Are you alright?”

Veyn pulled himself to his feet using the edge of the science station he had been sitting at when the ship had been unexpectedly yanked into warp. The giant bruise encircling his right eye from where the microscope had been slammed into his face had left Veyn with monocular vision, which made taking stock of his surroundings in the pitch black even more impossible.

“I…” Veyn winced, his had raising to his temple instinctively. He felt a wet warmth on his fingers. Two different streams of blood trickled down his face, one from his forehead and another from a gash under his eye. “I likely have a concussion,” Veyn said with resignation, picking up and then collapsing into the chair he had been thrown out of by the landing. “But considering the circumstances, I suppose I am relatively alright,” he said with as much good humor as he could muster.

Lieutenant Cewa turned his head to orient toward the source of Maher’s voice, which immediately gave him an intense bout of vertigo. “Are you injured, Ensign?”
