Main Engineering was dark… the only light left were the emergency ones. A crewman stood over Ensign Smythe, who was tying a makeshift bandage around the Ensign’s bleeding leg. The sharp pain as the bandage was tightened woke the young Ensign.

“Ah! Bloody fu-” Jon shouted as he returned to consciousness with a sharp stabbing pain, only for it to be replaced by a series of sharp, stabbing pains and dull, throbbing pains. He took a couple of deep breaths through his gritted teeth, trying to force his body to accept and ignore (as best it could) the worst pain, and relegate it all to dull, throbbing status.

Looking around, he noticed the lighting was poor and not many people were milling about.

“Well… that’s probably not good,” he commented. “D’you know what the Hell just happened?” he asked the crewman who’d administered first aid.
