Leaving the Calvin Home
Lucas had disappeared from the bridge as quietly as Zen might. He entered his quarters. His daughter was waiting on the couch. “Dad? What’s happening? That was Uncle Zen telling everyone to abandon ship.” Lucas couldn’t speak. He walked up to her silently. Taking her in his arms, he said “I’m sorry Em. I’m so sorry. I thought you’d be safer here than with your mum. I was wrong. Dead wrong.”
“Dad, you’re scaring me.” He pulled back. “You’re right love. Right now, we need to get off this ship. Worry about right and wrong later.” Emily was still staring. “You never say you’re wrong.”
“Never you mind if I’m wrong, let’s get out while we can. Yeah?”
“What’s happening though?”
“That Admiral, sent us here? She’s the one who’s been doing all this. Couldn’t disobey Starfleet when they ordered an an investigation, so she’s using her remote access codes to sabotage the ship. Drop shields, eject the warp core. That’s why we’re leaving. Only so much we can do.”
“What about Uncle Zen?”
“He’ll get out too. If he doesn’t have to come looking for us.” Lucas stared at his daughter. “Go on then. Let’s go.”
