Inhaling and exhaling with a deep grumbled sigh, Seph finally kicked her feet till the tangled bed sheets let her go and sat up. Resting her elbows on her knees, she cradled her head and grumbled. “These headaches are getting ridiculous again.”

Slipping a pair of black work out pants on and a deep blue sweater, the Science Chief slid on her ankle boots and stalked into the hallway as she pulled her hair up into a messy ponytail.

Heading towards medical, the young woman was glad most of the ship was asleep with third shift being more than half over. Walking into the medical bay, she glanced around looking for the NE on duty. They were the easiest to deal with. Tell them you have a headache, trouble sleeping, and presto… Instant knockout programmed to replicator for next cup of tea and off she’d go, back to her room to drink up and finally sleep.

No problem.

“Hello?” She called gently, wandering deeper into the bay. Seph half wondered if the NE on duty hadn’t maybe dozed off in a corner.

The tall Vulcan came around the corner and looked at Persephone. “Lieutenant. May I be of assistance? I apologize if you waited long. As we have no one in our care at present, I sent the majority of the shift to get something to eat.”

Vock, CMO

Seph startled slightly as Vock spoke. She hadn’t been paying attention, another sign the headache was in full bloom. “I ummm… I came to get replicator permission for the headache remedy in my records. Nothing serious. Then I’ll get out of your hair.” She clenched her jaw as the shift in her eyes to glance around the room made her head thrum.

While she wasn’t aware of them, little micro tells would give away her pain more than her words. The tightness on the edges of her eyes and the occasional clench of her jaw… the twitch of her hands and the uneasiness of her stance. “The Doc used to just authorize a couple doses and that was it. I can add them to the tea in my quarters.”

Vock looked at her in silence for a moment. Gesturing, he said “Please have a seat on biobed three, Lieutenant. I will, of course, need to conduct an examination before prescribing any medications or treatments. I will be as fast as I can.” and his hand reached into the pocket of the white coat he wore over his blue uniform. Retrieving a medical tricorder, he moved to stand next to the bed. “Computer, lower lights bio bed three to fifty percent.” and there was chirp followed by a lowering of the lights.

Seph bit back a huff. “Very well. But it’s unnecessary. The records have documented it thoroughly.” She say on the indicated bed and put her hands in her lap, unaware she was fiddling in nervousness.

Reasons would show moderate level of anxiety, slightly below normal nutrition levels, and a mildly raised pulse. She was overworked and not taking very good care of herself. “If you’d just authorize it, I’ll go to my room and have my tea and leave you in peace.”

His nearness was almost unnerving. She suddenly remembered finding him unconscious on the shuttle bay floor and feeling a protective need that had nothing to do with anything rational in her mind. As he closed the gap to scan her, she actually turned her head to look away as if it would make it better… Which it didn’t. There was something about him that she was drawn to. And her scientific mind was utterly confused at the lack of rational reasoning behind it.

She bit her lip and remained silent.

Vock watched the scans closely and noted the turning of her head, but said nothing. “Lieutenant, I find no reason to prescribe anything more than a mild sleep-aid. And to suggest that you eat a full meal before going to sleep. You are slightly vitamin deficient and slightly dehydrated, which could be a cause of your headache. This is nothing severe. You just need to be more mindful of your body’s needs for rest and proper nutrition.” and he made a few notes in the PaDD and then moved to the medical replicator near the bed. “Diphenhydramine. 30 tablets, 10 milligrams per.” and a bottle with small pink pills appeared. “Take one an hour or two before bed on a full stomach with 12 ounces of water.” and he handed them to her. “They are an antihistamine. Also good for treating allergies.” he added as an additional fact.

“Is there anything else I can do to assist you, Lieutenant?”
