Senior staff, The idea the he was part of the senior staff had not really sunk in until just now. The very reason for him being here had some how eluded his conscious thought. “Indeed, you know It had really not sunk in until you said it just now that I’m part of the senior staff of the ship.” he said then grinned. “Something else I’ll have to get used to I think. ” he stated almost to himself.

She smiled, which seemed less rare these days. “It takes time for sure. But do keep it in mind when you’re going about your days. You’re not in it alone, but nor can you skim under the radar. People will be looking to you for leadership.”

He thought for a moment or two and the took another sip off his tea. “How is the rest of the staff? I can only gauge so much from personnel profiles.” he finished

“Depends on what you mean. We’re a pretty motley crew, but everyone is very skilled in their areas. They are excellent at what they do. As for how they are as people, well, you’ll just have to get to know everyone for yourself. Not that I’m a shining example of this myself,” she said with a small snort.

Varen let out a small deep laugh that almost seemed out of character. “You have figured me out apparently” he said pausing briefly. “I like to assess before I engage.” he looked around the room again as he took another sip off his tea.

“Well Commander, I really should find my way to something to eat.” he noted as his stomach was now reminding him he had not eaten all day. “You are of course welcome to join me.

She smirked. A social invite, how novel. But then again he only just met her and her reputation hadn’t proceeded her this time. Sometimes that made a difference. “I love that idea, but you should go see the Captain first. Do you know the way? I can take you up there if not.”

Varen thought a moment on that idea. “That would be a good idea” he responded. “While I’m sure I could find my way, having a guide would get me there more efficiently ” he noted. Varen returned his cup and then motioned for her to lead the way.

She stepped out of the space and into the corridor leading him to the turbolift. All told, she was surprised how easy their conversation had been so far. Shara wasn’t an awkward person socially, she just was heavily guarded, even now. But was rather novel to not feel on guard from the get-go.

Varen looked around the bridge it was efficient something he loved. It was nice to have someone on board that could hold a reasonable conversation, many of the scientist he had worked with were not able to do so unless they were talking about their field. One of the down sides of specialization in a singular topic.

Up eight decks, they stepped onto the relatively compact bridge. It wasn’t as spacious as many others, but then again this was a small ship and it needed to be functional first and save the luxury bits for the areas where they really needed it. Shara stepped around the centre command area and veered off towards a door. She pressed the chime and stepped to the side. “Captain Kiernan is expecting you. Come find me in the Lounge when you’re done.”

Varen gave a suttle bow, “Thank you, ” he noted. “I’ll look forward to seeing you there.” he finished with a tug on this shirt to ensure things were in place. He waited for the Captain to call him in.

Varen was excited once he checked in the with captain it was official, his first post as a senior staff member on a Starfleet vessel would official begin. Years of training and study were finally coming to a head.

“Come in!” Sara called from the other side of the door. Her ready room was tidy, and had sparse personal effects. She sat, relaxed behind her desk.

Stepping into the room he noticed the simplicity in the decore of the room and wondered if she had just not taken the time to decorate or if she liked the clutter free space. No matter he thought. ” Varen Jorath, Reporting for duty.” he finaly stated, a warm smile sat in wait to great her gaze.

“Ah. The new Chief Science Officer. Welcome aboard”. Sara smiled back kindly. “Please, have a seat. Let’s talk for a minute.” She gestured to the chair across from her. “I take it you were briefed on the nature of the Asimov’s operations.”
