“Please Harry, call me Paddy, all me friends do. I trust your first couple of days on board the Asimov have gone to plan thus far?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Harry nodded, as he took a seat on one of the chairs. “Yes, it’s been really good to get stuck in… truth be told, I’ve spent most of my time down in Engineering getting the ship up to the specification it should be.” he said, pausing for a moment. “Of course, I find that type of thing strangely relaxing.”

“How long have you been on the Asimov?” he enquired.

“About a year,” Paddy replied with a grin, “Though, as I’m sure you know, you tend to lose track of time on ships like this one.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“Yes, space assignments do tend to go fairly quickly.” he said with a grin. “So, where do you want to start?” he asked.

“How about what drew you to the Asimov? She’s a fine ship, we all know that, but why this and not a larger exploratory vessel?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

Harry considered the question, taking a sip of his drink. “Well, I guess part of the attraction was being the Chief Engineer. Most of the larger exploratory vessels have a larger engineering crew, and so typically headed up by a Lieutenant Commander.” he said, noting that he was one of the lucky few Lieutenants to be a Chief Engineer.

“As for the Asimov herself… well, not everyone believes that we need to operate in the shadows. Unfortunately, the last 30 years have told us that it is necessary, as long as it’s done in the correct way. And I felt that I could, ethically, contribute to the Asimov’s mission.”

“Shadows or no,” Paddy mused, “It’s still a form of exploration I suppose.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“I suppose it is.” he said with a slight smile. “And admittedly a form that only a handful of us lucky enough get to do,” he mused. “And what was it about the ship that drew you to her, or was it luck of the draw?”

“Luck of the draw,” Paddy responded, “Though I’ll admit, an exploratory ship has its bonuses.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

Harry nodded. “It’s usually the way… whether good or bad.”

“So Harry, tell me, how are you settling in?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“Like a duck to water,” he replied, with a slight smile. “The crew seems great, although I’ve only been onboard for a handful of days. I would say that some of my Engineering JO’s are a little rough around the edges when it comes to their deportment, however they seem to be highly capable technicians.”
