A shopping trip was so novel. The last time they were on a station, they ended up being chased, got in a fight, and Bethany had gotten cut with a knife and made herself sick from over exertion. Things were very different today.Bethany was wearing the clothes she had bought when he was in surgery. It was a long black pant jumper, with wide tank top like straps. Then fabric sweeped down and around her shoulders and it had a wide open asymmetrical skirt. The skirt and shoulder pieces faded from solid black to a deep red. Her hair was down and she paired it with flat open toed black shoes.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel wore his own old clothes, abiding by his promise not to wear pirate clothes until they were back on the ship. He wore one of his long sleeved shirts, a pair of regular pants and shoes, and his white gloves. He was using his cane to support himself as he walked alongside Bethany. “So where do you want to go first?”
~ Izei, CMO
You look nice. She kissed him before they went out the door. She wished he hadn’t worn the gloves, but she knew that would take time. “Why don’t we start with you, while you are still rested? There is a shop just as we enter the promenade I think you will like.” Maybe you will see something for me too.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Thanks, he replied, kissing her back. You look gorgeous. He caught her thoughts, and pulled slightly at the gloves uncomfortably, but couldn’t bear to take them off. They’d have to stay for now. Aasrel smiled, “Okay, let’s go there first. Lead the way.”
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany blushed slightly. Thanks. It’s not what I usually wear, but I really liked it. She set a hand over his reassuringly as he tugged at the glove. It was okay if he still needed it. She led the way to the shop. “Here we are.” She waved toward the entrance with a slight flourish and a grin and followed him.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel took her hand and squeezed it gently. He went into the shop and looked around. “Okay, so.... Huh. It’s been a long time since I went shopping.”
~ Izei, CMO
“Well you look good in your nice slacks and shirts, but you are devastating in something more rustic, Rel.” She winked at him and perused through the racks. “I guess, what do you need for our trip. What kinds of things will we do?”
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
“Then choose something that’ll drop ‘em dead.” Aasrel said and grinned at her. He looked at the department signage, Sporting, Casual, Formal wear, and a few others. “Well, probably some walking. Visiting my family, of course, sightseeing…”
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany returned the grin and kept looking. She visibly shuddered at the Formal Wear sign. She hoped they didn’t need that. She made her way towards the casual clothes and browsed. After a moment she held out a few things. The pants were similar to the cargo pants she had gotten him, without all the pockets. The material was heavy and durable but was a finer quality and it showed. The shirt was long sleeved button down with a long cuff from mid forearm to wrist with a subtle knot pattern in the material. The pattern repeated along the mandarin collar and the front along the buttons and holes. She paired it with a wide leather belt that was soft and subtle instead of heavy duty like the previous belt she gave him.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel studied the clothes for a moment, then made his way into the fitting room. He hung the shirt in front of the mirror before he undressed. Then he swapped his old shirt with the new one, so the mirror remained covered. He dressed in the cargo like pants, sitting on the small bench in there to help dress, then the new shirt. He slipped the belt through the pants’ loops. Then he stepped out of the room so Bethany could see. “What do you think?”
~ Izei, CMO
Her brows went up and she lit out a wolf whistle. She took his hand and led him over to one of the mirrors between rooms. “Devastating. Very roguish. What do you think?”
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel looked in the mirror somewhat uncomfortably. “It looks good, I think.” He said, tugging at the shirt a bit. He smiled, “If you like it, I’ll get it.”
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany stepped between him and the mirror giving him a confused look. What is it? If you don’t like it, I won’t be offended. There is still a lot to look at.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
It’s not the clothes, I like them fine. It’s me, it’s… It’s my reflection. He shrugged awkwardly. I… I look like I used to, except for the bald patch but… I don’t know, I guess I’m still getting used to it?
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany nodded, I guess it’s kind of surreal and shocking in a way. Her hands smoothed over his shoulders and down to his hands. She held both of them. Want me to pick a few more things?
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel nodded, Okay. He held her hand, curling his fingers around them. It is. And then with the prosthetics… I feel like my body still hasn’t quite come to terms with everything.
~ Izei, CMO
We don’t have to do this today if you don’t. We can just look for me, or explore a little. Bethany was sure it would take time for his body and his mind to adjust and come to terms with this new reality. She didn’t want him to feel pushed. He could set the pace.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
No, I want to. I don’t want to be prevented from doing things. He squeezed her hands and forced a little smile. I like these. Let’s keep looking.
~ Izei, CMO
Okay. I’ll go grab you some other things. Bethany enlisted the help of a clerk. She explained they were taking a vacation to Betazed, and needed appropriate clothing for the climate. They brought many pieces that could be mixed and matched, casual, sport, and even a few more formal leaning pieces. Bethany passed them to him and then sat to wait.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel disappeared into the fitting room with the clothing. Several moments passed and then Bethany heard in her mind, Bethany? I need help.
~ Izei, CMO
Okay. Bethany got up from where she was waiting and slipped politely through the door. How can I help?
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel had one of the more formal pieces, a sort of shirt common on Betazed, stuck around his head and prosthetic arm, the arm moving woodenly and not allowing the shirt the rest of the way down. Besides my… current predicament, there was an undercurrent of embarrassment, I might need help choosing styles.
~ Izei, CMO
Hang on. Bethany lifted the shirt up and off of him. Alright, let your arm down. Remember what Kevin said. To rest and let it reset. It’s equivalent to a muscle spasm. She shook the shirt out and set it aside. Then she went through the clothes and paired them up for him. Several of these can be paired with each other, but this should get you started. Then she picked up the shirt again. Let’s slip it an your right arm and then over your head?
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Right, Aasrel said, lowering his arm and holding it across his body. He let it rest while she paired things up. Okay, he said when she picked up the first shirt again. With her help he slipped his arm into the shirt and then pulled it over his head. Then he tugged it until it set right on him and showed her. Yes? No? Maybe?
~ Izei, CMO
Hmmm… Bethany stepped back and looked, walking around him. I like the way it fits, but not the color. How does it feel?
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel moved around in it a little bit. A little itchy. He commented, tugging at the material. Maybe there’s something softer?
~ Izei, CMO
While he removed the shirt, Bethany picked another outfit off the hooks. She put the first shirt in the discard pile. Try this. It feels soft.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel tried on the next shirt, tugging it over. He picked up a thought from her that made him look at her and grin. I like it much better but how does it look?
~ Izei, CMO
Again Bethany looked at it, giving it honest appraisal. Not as formal as the other one, but it suits you better. The cut defines your body better. You look more relaxed in it. It must be a soft as it seems. She winked at him.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
I’ll take it, Aasrel said, smiling. Let’s see… What would you pair it with? He said, starting to look through the other things in the room.
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany held up two different pairs of pants. Either of these and that jacket. There was also a long sleeveless ankle length coat as well as the more traditional jacket.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel tried on the sleeveless ankle length coat and one of the pairs of pants. He needed a little help with the pants, but he was mostly able to do it himself. When he was dressed he shifted around a bit getting the clothes to set right, then showed her again, “As good as the pirate clothes?”
~ Izei, CMO
“Hmmmm… different. Pirate clothes make you look very mysterious and dangerous. This makes you look very sophisticated. Like one of those doctors that wade into danger zones to save the innocent. But your about to do battle with corporations to donate supplies. It fits you.” She walked over and adjusted the collar a bit and brushed non-existent lint off the front of the shirt. All a ploy just to get close to him. The shirt is very soft.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel chuckled lightly and took her hands. “You think I’d wade into a danger zone to save the innocent?” He said softly. They both knew he would, he would put himself in danger to save the not-so-innocent. Feel free to check if everywhere is just as soft.
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany gave him a look remembering that horrible moment on The Cloud when he had done just that to save her. “I know you would.” She slid her hands from his hands, up his arms to his shoulders. It is. The jacket is warm too. I think you should get this. She let her hands slip around his waist, under the jacket, and hugged him, resting against him.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
The memory passed between them, travelling telepathically. It wasn’t just then though, his propensity for throwing himself into dangerous situations was why he’d been assimilated. It hadn’t mattered in the end - he’d either have been assimilated or killed - but the way it had happened was because he’d been trying to help others.
Aasrel rested against her, leaning on her. I really like it. I’ll get these and the other coat, so I have a regular coat too. He smiled down at her. Let’s pick out a few more things and then… Hmm. He grinned playfully. Maybe we can pick something out for me that’s all for you.
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany looked at him, her eyes dancing. Oh I have ideas. You try the rest of these on and I’ll go find something. She slipped out the door leaving him with the other items and made her way through the store.
Lt. Cmdr. Gadi, COS
Aasrel tried on the rest of the clothes, putting the ones that he thought felt nice and fit well aside for Bethany to go through. He sat down for a bit on the tiny bench in there to rest while he waited for her to return.
~ Izei, CMO
Bethany returned, knocked softly, and then entered. She took the things he did like and passed them out to the clerk to package. If you like them, then so will I. Here. Try these. ‘These’ were simply a pair of pants. On Earth they were called fisherman’s pants. They were loose, comfortable and tied around the waist with the ‘waistband’ folded down over the ties.
