“Bethany’ll be able to tell and I don’t think she’d let me push it.” Aasrel commented, grinning at her. He stretched briefly and then sat on the edge of the bed. “Ready?”

Bethany nodded. “I love visiting you at work, but if I never have to be a patient in sickbay the rest of my life, it will be too soon.” She collected their cards and his PaDD. “We’ll go at your pace. You tell me… I,” she hadn’t been at his PT so she didn’t know how long or how fast he could walk. She didn’t know if he needed to hold her arm or use a cane. She didn’t know anything. She couldn’t stop the guilt she felt about that. She was there now though, she would make it up to him.

Aasrel smiled reassuringly at her. He was still reading her thoughts, like she’d allowed him to. “Yes, I need a support. I have a cane,” he pointed to it, leaned against the wall near the bed, “or you can help me.” He took her hand and smiled again, “Like you said. At my pace.”

She grabbed the cane and handed it to him. Even if he chose to have her help, he would need it for those times she wasn’t able to do so, and for his therapy. “You know I’ll help. Just tell me what to do.”

They made their way back, Bethany pointed out a couple of places that she had gotten him food. Oh and over there I went shopping like you suggested. She looked at him and winked.

Aasrel supported himself with the cane as they walked. He walked with a limp, his PT said the limp would lessen or disappear completely as he continued with therapy. Bethany kept him distracted as they walked. Oh? What’d you buy? He asked, grinning playfully. It seemed it had worked, he was distracted for a few moments.

Do you really want ne to tell you? Or should I show you when we get there? She grinned wickedly at him. He did get the impression it was something that made her feel feminine.

Aasrel grinned and shrugged, I’ll wait then. Seems worth it.

I hope so. Bethany flushed slightly as they walked.

Honestly I should probably get a few other things. My clothes took heavy use on this mission, and they may not be uniforms, but they are still work clothes.

He nodded. I’d love to go with you, but I don’t want to slow you down. I’m already feeling like a break.

Nonsense. You can’t slow down shopping. And I don’t need to go now, just before we leave. She looked around, Why don’t we stop there and eat. Then we can walk the rest of the way?
