“C-codes for the stellar device.” Doppler responded, wincing a little, but containing himself from making any loud noises. “I- it sounds insane but I’m from the future… their star was… on the verge of a supernova. The device was meant to remove some of the heavier elements from the star, let it keep going a little longer… I was the operator. It worked… partially. Their planet still got roasted. They want to use it to remove Earth’s Iron core and make it collapse…”

Doppler

She continued to treat his wounds gently as they talked. “We were sent to destroy a weapon with few details. How do disable and destroy the device?” Shara asked.

Doppler coughed, bringing his hand up to the side of his head. “The, ah… command codes. If you can get me there, I can punch them in… it needs voice… recognition. Disabling the Stellar Device is easier than activating it, thankfully. Just need to… remove the activation… ah… spark plug of sorts. I don’t know where they’re storing my shuttle though… the Stellar Device is built into its structure.”

Doppler

Shara looked at Mwezi and gave him a significant look. She wanted his opinion. Did they trust him? This wasn’t just her on this mission and she wanted his thoughts.

Mwezi considered the man carefully, then nodded. “If he betrays us, it’s easy enough to shoot him. If he’s being genuine, it’d be stupid to leave him here. Either way, it’s better to bring him with us.”

“Agreed.” He was already untied, but Shara slipped her hand under his elbow. “Easy now. Let’s go,” she said, helping him gently to his feet, knowing his body was going to be sore from his treatment. She could have given Doppler a warning about not doing anything stupid but she figured Mwezi’s comments were more than enough.

“You know where the, uh, Stellar Device is being kept?”

Doppler nodded, leaning on Shara for support as he gestured. “I can point the way. They dragged me back and forth enough times to remember it.”
