“I’ve done the war thing for real, I don’t need to reenact it,” Shara said dryly. “Target protection and infiltration have bene a norm, so I’m good with those. Pick one. If you want to shake up era and weaponry, I think you’ll find I’m more than able to keep up,” she said, pulling a double-sided knife from the rack and twirling it in her hand.

Mwezi nodded, then tapped a few things on his console. He hadn’t been part of any active wars, but he’d read about many and they didn’t sound very pleasant. Thinking of what kind of battle or fight they could fit into, he considered for a moment, searching his brain for ideas. Suddenly, he thought of something and his face formed into a grin. Some history Shara would not be aware of, seeing as it happened in a timeline she had never experienced. “Era and Tech, 2250s Starfleet.” He glanced around, grabbing two hand phasers from the appropriate era (reminding himself to account for the rightward aim), then walking over to a rack of more close-combat weapons and picking out a serrated dagger. “Etro’s Claws,” he muttered to himself. Nearly as old a weapon as Fangs of Illos. He took one.

Calloway eyed her options and selected a Type 1 phaser and slid a slim dagger into her boot. Of course, there was a spot for one there in these boots, because that was how she rolled.

When Shara had chosen her weapons, Mwezi approached the arch. “You will be taking the role of commander of the mission. The goal is to infiltrate an enemy vessel and extract a weapon before time runs out.

“What sort of weapon?” she asked.

“A planet killer.” Mwezi replied, then turned back to the arch without giving any more insight. “Computer, load program ‘Mwezi 3-5-g-k.” There was a shimmer, and Shara and Mwezi found themselves in a Starfleet transporter room. A human man stood at the transporter controls, looking at the two of them with a bit of an intense expression.

“Okey-dokey then. If there’s any common sense in the design of the enemy ship, I should be putting you somewhere in the cargo bay. There shouldn’t be a soul in sight.”

Mwezi nodded, glancing to Shara for the ‘energise’ command.

Shara took her place and stilled her body, regulating her breathing. She looked at Mwezi and then gave the nod.

They stood there for a few short moments before Mwezi chuckled. “You’re supposed to say ‘Energize,’ Commander.” He turned to the human at the controls and spoke. “Energize.”

“Field rules are very different, Commander,” Shara said gazing straight ahead. She could explain more but there wasn’t time and it was immaterial just know.

In moments, they were in a new place. A dark, cavernous space filled with platforms and walkways. There was an overwhelming green vibe to the sparse lighting, although not the same green as the Borg. It was less digital, more sickly and radioactive.

More urgent than the lighting, however, was the collection of aliens that they’d transported right into the middle of. They were pale skinned and had the pointed ears of vulcans and romulans, but none of the arched forehead. Instead, their skin was covered in ink tattoos, in scrawling and thick lines and patterns with no consistency between individuals. They froze for a moment, then one called out. “Intruders!” The seven aliens pulled their weapons and moved to shoot Mwezi and Shara.

Her petite phaser was on heavy stun and Shara whipped it out and fired accurate shots at the approaching individuals she didn’t immediately recognize. Meanwhile she moved sideways towards cover, her eyes scanning after each shot. She kept an eye on her periphery for Mwezi.

Mwezi, seeing that most of their enemies were near enough for melee, pulled out the Claws and began stabbing and slashing at the aliens in close range. He grabbed one and used them as a shield against the shot of another, then used the phaser of the dead alien as a weapon to shoot the still living one. “Keep one alive, hopefully we can figure out the location of the planet-killer from them.”

Mwezi made for a nice distraction, and so Shara slipped around some cargo containers, watching between objects and listening intently. She could easily map out his progress through the group and though some of the aliens were moving in her direction, she was expecting that.

She swung back around a larger set of containers, rather than the more direct route and was glad she did. Several aliens rushed ahead of her but she could see the shadow of one lurking by a container out of Mwezi’s way. Bingo. Stepping silently through a narrow space she turned around one more container and then aimed her phaser… pressing it to the alien’s head. “Move and I shoot. I don’t recommend it,” she said, reaching to pull them back towards her.

The alien woman, just as bald and just as tattooed as her fellows, froze, although there was such intense anger on her face that it was clear she was unhappy with her predicament. She muttered something in an alien language and spat on the ground, but didn’t immediately resist. There was a glint in her eye though, she would likely take the first good opportunity to kill her captor and escape.

Meanwhile, Mwezi continued his warpath through the rest of the aliens. He threw the dagger into the eye of one of them, then used his powerful legs to jump over and yank it out while kicking the alien off the platform and into the abyss. By this point there was only one left fighting, and he shot them with their ally’s phaser, bringing the combat to a close… for now.
