A few hours later Nurse Bailey arrived in sickbay to the sound of deep snoring. She blinked at the two sleeping figures, quickly checked both were still well and as protocol suggested turned off the alpha wave induced on Bethany. She then leapt a foot into the air when, as her hand moved to press against Ryley’s neck, he lifted a hand and grabbed her wrist preventing her making contact with his skin. Without opening his eyes he growled gently. “Leave it.” And released her.

“Don’t do that!” She exclaimed her hand on her chest as he opened his eyes and groggily sat up with a groan.

Bethany was up instantly and as Bailey yelled she was on her feet and beside her, reaching for the hand holding Bailey’s wrist in a vice, “What?…Oh.” She turned around and sat back down on the bed. Ryley could handle his own staff. She just had to wait to see if he was going to let her go or if she had to stay there for awhile. “What’dya find out, Doc?”

Bailey now free, Ryley turned his legs over the bed and stretched with another groan. “That these biobeds are rubbish for my back and Bailey here squeals like a banshee when startled. Coffee?” He asked and got off the bed somewhat clumsily. When Bailey reached to help him he shrugged her off, gently, and took up his cane, limping off towards the CMO’s office.

Coffee?! “I can have coffee again? Doc you just made my year.” Bethany hopped back up and followed him like a kid that was just told they were getting a puppy. Replicated coffee was not nearly as good as the stuff she had stashed away, but she’d take it. She entered the office behind him and sat down. “So is now the part where you tell me all the things I’m not allowed to do anymore?”
