It’s been a long road…
Gettin’ from there to here…

So on April 19, 2021, I was promoted to CO of this ship. That same day, I recruited the best XO in history. On June 30, we got a GM whose training sim won an award. Some people have come and gone, but I do still see a lot of the same names from that spring. It’s a funny twist that this is where I got my first CO post. The Asimov was actually the first ship I was on when I left the Academy. It’s like poetry, it rhymes. wait, wrong franchise.

This ship was in trouble a year ago. And a wonderful group made it work again. It definitely has been a long road, at times a bumpy one. But an amazing team has made it all the easier.

It’s been a year, and there’s this Douglas Adams quote in my mind. “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.” I was going to try to get a ship commissioned before this came along. The Asimov wasn’t the plan. But the plan was distinctly overrated. This was definitely where I needed to be.

The current longest tenure as a CO is still ongoing. David Fergusson has been going for 18 years. That’s the kind of thing I aspire to.

So, this may only matter to me, but it’s a goal I wanted to achieve, and you all made it possible.
