Calloway knew the moment she started reading Gadi’s file that the two would likely get along swimmingly. Or at least not get in each other’s hair and drive the other crazy. There were lots of people with Intelligence backgrounds who were arrogant asses who regularly invited someone to want to dump them out an airlock. Bethany Gadi did not strike her as that kind of person. Now, it didn’t mean they’d be best friends, but they likely would understand each other and the work they did very well. Mutual respect, if nothing else.Stepping up to the office, she wiped the chime button with her middle finger and waited.

“Come in!” a voice called from inside. It was a strange accent southern American continent mixed with a little Scottish lilt. Upon entering the only thing that could be seen were Gadi’s feet sticking out from the crawl space behind the bulk head in the corner of the small security office. Bethany had a PaDD in front of her inside the access hatch that was hooked up to the video feed. “Ah Cmdr Calloway, I’ll be right with you.” Bethany was messing with the computer interface, she got the tool she was holding into the junction to hold it open and reached for the part she needed, “Ugh, I hate being short.” She twisted around and with surprising flexibility, bent knee and hip and using her knee to slide the piece closer so she could grab it. She inserted the part and then pushed herself out of the small space and stood up. She walked over the few steps and offered her hand. “Pleasure to meet you. Have a seat. Sorry about the mess.” There was electronic tech everwhere.
Gadi, CoSShara shook her hand with a firm, but not hard, grasp. “Not at all. Worked in worse,” she said with a smirk. It was a small ship so it was a case of often making a big mess in order to do smaller simple things.
Taking a seat, the older woman’s grey-blue eyes looked over the COS. “Whatcha workin’ on?” she asked, abundantly curious.

She shook Calloway’s hand with an equally firm confidence. The old saying was you could judge a person by their hand shake, and in Bethany’s experience it had always been true. Bethany laughed looking around, “Much worse.” Bethany was sure that Calloway had read up on her just like she’d done with the rest of the senior staff. This particular skill set wasn’t a secret either. “My main expertise is electronic war fare. Basically, Star Fleet Command has given me permission to actively hack any computer I want. This,” she waves around, “Is the equipment I use to do so. Some of it provides extra protection to the ship’s computer and some is for a stand alone computer that will allow me to do so without risking anyone tracing me back from getting to the Assimov central computer, and some are portable devices.”
Gadi, CoS“I’m familiar with the set-up. My daughter does a lot of the same, and so have I in the past,” Shara said with a nod. “But I am curious, is this a ‘just in case’ scenario or what you’re planning to do on the regular?” People with similar skill-sets ended up on assignments together all the time, though Personnel usually tried not to stack the deck too much on one area, especially on a ship with a smaller crew.

Bethany held her hands up and a ‘who knows’ type of gesture. “I was told my particular skill set was needed on board. Originally I was being sent for this skill set and then the CoS position became vacant. Add to that the captain has asked me to get my equipment set up asap and to work toward integrating the ship’s AI, I would have to say it’s something I will be doing on the regular. In the vein, one thing that is part of this combined position is information security. I don’t want to step on your toes or my system impede anything you are doing. I don’t want to ask you for an identifier, that’s dangerous. So once the system is set up I’d like you to come back and set up a bypass code so you can navigate around the system.”
Gadi, CoS
Shara gave a nod. “Easily done. Just let me know. I have no intention of poking about too much but being able to monitor things will be crucial. If you need a hand at any point with programming, let me know, but otherwise, just keep me in the loop and I’m sure we’ll avoid any conflicts.” Working with others wasn’t foreign to her, but it was usually far more compartmentalized than she was knew this role on theAsimov would be for her.
