Medical taken care of it was up to deck 5. First she found her quarters, but didn’t bother going in, she just wanted to know where they were. Then a quick stop to the mess, “Forgrave’s Brew, large” =^=That item is not on file. Please insert the correct program or choose another request.=^= Bethany sighed, forgoing the coffee she’d really miss Issac. He’d been a good friend and made the best coffee. “Ice Water, Cold, in a travel cup.” That would ‘wake’ her up just as well. Taking the cup she headed out of the mess and down and around the corridor to the CNS’s office. She rang the chime and waited for an answer.

Appearing in the doorway was the blythe, auburn-haired Counsellor, Lieutenant Paddy McMillan. The young Irishman had been getting more and more used to the concept of performing one psychological exam after another. Smiling, he extended his hand and said, “Ahh Lieutenant Gadi I presume? Pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Patrick McMillan, Paddy to me friends, please come in.” The Counsellor stepped aside and gestured for the new COS to take a seat in the office. Noting the small cup of water Gadi was carrying, Paddy added, “You sure I can’t get you something warmer?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethany smiled genuinely at the counselor and shook his hand. “I am, Bethany Gadi. Bethany please and to those who know me really well, Bethy. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Patrick.” Bethany’s voice carried the slightly off but lilting Scottish accent of the Appalachian mountains of the North American continent on Earth. She entered the office with curiosity. She was really a Jill-of-all-trades and had served as counselor both formally and informally many times. She took a seat and brushed her red hair back behind her shoulder, where she hadn’t braided it quite as tightly as needed. She glanced down at the water and chuckled. “I was going to get coffee but the Asimov computer doesn’t have the right recipe. Once you’ve had Forgrave’s Brew all others are just…bleh. So I opted for water. Maybe iced tea instead?”

“Have you ever tried Irish Coffee? I find it keeps you awake at the most important times; and I’d like to consider us friends Commander, so please call me Paddy.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Paddy it is then, and you can call me Bethy.” Bethany shook her head, “No I haven’t, but that has alcohol doesn’t it, Paddy? And I’m on duty, but I would love to try it some time. Or am I thinking of a different drink?” At home coffee was consumed black, hot, and with nothing extra added.

Paddy nodded, “Forgive me, I didn’t realise you started your shift so early, my family’s brew always was good for keeping you awake on a late night shift on our farm.” Replicating himself a latte, he bought that, along with the requested iced tea and sat back down at the table, “So, how are you settling in?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Don’t apologize. I would love to try your family’s brew sometime. I just know I have a lot of meetings to get through still before I call it a day.” Bethany picked up the ice tea, abandoning the water. “Hitting the ground running. Arrived a couple of hours ago and it’s been, go go go. I don’t know, I guess I wasn’t expecting a smaller ship to be so hectic, I guess. But I don’t mind it. It’s different and that’s always refreshing. I found my quarters but I haven’t been in them yet. And apparently there is some issue with ops and one of my crates. So…about normal I guess.” Bethany seemed to always have a grin on her face, as if she found life amusing and happy.

“I’m always up for sharing a little something stronger when we’re off duty,” Paddy winked, but then caught himself for a second, as if he’d just realised what he’d said; was he flirting with the new COS? “So, do you find you prefer the busier schedule or do you always like to be on the go?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethany didn’t miss the wink or the pause. He was definitely flirting with her. What Bethany didn’t know was if that was his personality and he was like that with everyone, or if it was specifically directed at her. She wanted to find out. “Well today will be crazy, but I’ll be off duty tomorrow at 1700.” She grinned before taking a sip of her ice tea. “I like a rhythm. Sometimes things go non stop and others times it’s slower. I like the rhythm that life throws at me. I get to enjoy and appreciate both that way. That might sound a bit of a practiced reply but I know that I don’t have it in me to go at warp 9 all the time. I need those drops, those leisurely days to recharge so I can keep going.”
Gadi, CoS

Almost as if the two officers were having a sort of telekenetic conversation with each other, Paddy arched an eyebrow with a grin and said, “Shall we say, mess hall, 1730 hours?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethany raised her glass slightly in acknowledgement, “It’s a date.” She sipped the drink and set it down, all business, maybe, there was still that ever present grin on her face. “Unlike most I enjoy these evaluations, so what do you want to know counselor?”
Lt Cmdr Gadi, CoS

“What can you tell me about your past assigments Commander?” Paddy had a similar sheepish grin on his face, which he was try and failing to hide.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Well, let’s see,” Bethany put the glass down, leaned back in the chair and stared up at the ceiling, no one ever decorated their ceilings, ordering her thoughts. “I was just transferred from the Dresden where I served as CNS. Before that I was assigned to SF Intelligence head quarters on Earth as a specialist. In between assignments I worked at head quarters as a counselor, debriefing operatives and trying to help them. Did a stint as a stand in hand to hand trainor for a few months. My assignments consisted of information gathering, either in person or electronically.” She returned her gaze to Paddy, that ever present grin still in place. “More than that and I might have to ask for your security clearance.” Which wasn’t entirely accurate. Most of what Bethany did was not classified so unlike most Intel agents she was able to converse more freely, but there were a few.
