“Naw… not can’t… won’t. And thats ok, Sha. This is a huge step that neither of us remember taking. Its fine to feel off-kilter. Hell, I’m still tryin’ to process it, too. But listen… your pops got drunk and beat folks. Beat on you. Why? Who the hell knows… some folks are just ugly and mean on the inside. And booze don’t help those folks none. But you? Woman- you got drunk and told me you loved me and then we got married. That ain’t mean. That ain’t beating on folks. That ain’t raging against life and taking out your inner-demons on kids. This is more like… like… like your inner demons were trying to get you to put up these big-ass walls around your heart and you invited them to a party and they all had a blast and decided the wall wasn’t worth it and they tore it down in a drunken revelry. Thats some first-class demon dealing right there, if I do say so myself.” and he grinned at her.

Was that true? Was it so simple? Just maybe it was. And so she gave him a soft smile as she pondered the mysterious demon hunting that had happened that she couldn’t recall.

“Listen… lets stop thinkin’ ‘bout the how it happened and start lookin’ at the why it happened. Look at not as a something you did while drunk. Look at it now… here… in this tub lookin at yours truly. Look at me right now and see if you, sober with a headache to beat them all Shara thinks that being married to me is such a bad idea. If ya do, I’ll go get Vanessa warmed up and we’ll go get annulled right now, come back, and spend the rest of our time like we were already. Because at the end of the day… if you really think the legal thing don’t matter enough to get married? Then it shouldn’t matter if ya do get married.” and he settled his back and closed his eyes.

“Thats some high-end Vulcan s#!t right there… and with a hangover. You are one lucky lady to have landed the likes of me, thats fer damn sure.” and he smiled slightly.

Micah

“Indeed, very impressive,” Shara said softly. “On all accounts.” Turning her body towards him a bit, she draped a leg over his and while that could have been something provocative, the rest of her body was almost huddled to his as her arm came to drape across his chest, her right hand resting on his left shoulder. “I trust you, Pickle. No matter what else happened, that was true last night and is still true now. I’m scared as hell of screwing this up but… I don’t want to. And… I guess that’s all the answer I truly need. Can’t promise I won’t make you want to pull your hair out some days, but you know when I make a vow I’m all in. Every time.”

“Good to have ya with me… wife. And same here. I ain’t lookin’ to screw this up either, but I am far from perfect… and I ain’t never been a husband before.” He turned his head to look at her, adoration and plain and simple love shining from his look. “But I wanna be yours. And you know me well enough to know that if I set my mind to do it? I’m gonna do it. Now… why don’t we lay here for a an hour or so, then try and eat, then go hop in the cold-a$$ creek and get rid of these hangovers. Sound like a plan?”

Micah

“Sounds perfect,” Shara said with a smile. It was entirely coincidental- their finding each other in all the mess of their lives- but like it had once before in her life, something about it felt bigger than that. And for now she was content to just let it be. “Actually…”

She pulled off to the side and grabbed her coffee mug before snuggling in back against Micah. Now it’s perfect.”

~Shara

Micah smiled and settled next to her. For almost an hour, they sat, relaxed, and just were. Finally breaking the silence, he said “Oddly enough… I think I’m getting hungry. What say I make us a couple ‘a breakfast sandwiches and we go jump in the creek? After, if you want, we can take a hike and sweat out some of the moonshine. And you can start seeing your land. Or… we lay here all day and just wallow in headaches. I’m game either way.” and he laughed softly.
