[snip]

As Sadie’s scans began to bare fruit of return results she would have the following to report.

1) On Temporal scans things seemed for the moment stable in the timeline that they could analyze, the science of this was still quite new all things considered but what was known seemed ‘ok’ to her knowledge and report by the temporal science specialists down in the labs. There were though signs of some instability hence the temporal anomalies on the Merrimack, NLt Bips in the temporal lab theorized in his report to Sadie that the reason they werent being effected was probably due to them not being native to this time period.

2) Quantum reality scans for things showed some instability on a greater scale, several signs were evident of ‘tears’ leaking into likely other realities presumably at least one of those would be where the Serpents were coming from. Several such tears were in fact being picked up about half a light year outside the system from their current position. It might be useful to investigate these soon (hint hint when you do your report)

3) The last return of local scans for subspace showed a subspace fissure 20,000 km off their port bow, it only was ‘seen’ of course by their subspace scans and seemed otherwise to have no baring on the local area. Sadie’s knowledge and her own team’s report would indicate that a Tachyon pulse modulated on the mid EM harmonics could open or close such a fissure if it were to open. NE Sassy in the labs would chime in her report that she suspected, though couldnt yet prove, that this fissure might be linked to the temporal and quantum anomalies that the Serpents use, so for now it was the most likely point of their entry when it came. (hint hint for later!!)

Drudoc turned patiently waiting in the center chair to face the deer like woman, “..Lieutenant? What do your scans show?” She inquired.

Sadie conferred to the captain the information that she had gathered. “… and I suspect that the fissure might be similar to the ones the Serpents use… It seems to be the most likely place for their point of entry, Captain,” she spoke, her ears going back slightly with nerves. She was working on her anxiety with the help of the Counselor, but it was still there.

Cochrane gave Sadie a nod and a small wink of encouragement. “Good job, L-T.” and he turned to the Captain. “What if we were to put some probes on the other anomalies and set them to alert us if something is amiss, and then position ourselves above and a bit away from the spot Lt. Sadie indicated? Might surprise anything coming through, and most sensor arrays I have seen look up very far unless specifically told to.” he suggested.

Drudoc considered, “..Drop the buoys, however, set a timer on them to self destruct in 72 hours, or unless given direct command by a senior officer here. I figure if we aren’t finished in 72 hours…” she paused trailing off before continuing, “..Regardless,” Drudoc began about to reply when a series of beeps echoed from both Sadie’s station and and those at tactical/security.

Turning to face the screen sharply, “..Report!” Drudoc said.

On scans would show a quantum fissure opening 300km to their aft port quarter and growing rapidly, another was picked up 500km ahead of them with multiple smaller fissures within. A temporal distortion wave was accompanied by these openings.

No sooner would Sadie and Bo get their reports in when out of the first fissure a large organic like ‘ship’ almost like an elongated mushroom with spindly tentacle like protrusions emerged. The vessel matched descriptions in their logs for the Serpent’s larger ships from those of the future, similar to what they fought before coming here. Almost 800km long and 600km in height the narrowest point of the vessel was about 400km around. As they watched the mushroom head cone at the front extended and out shot what could be considered ‘thorns’ by some unknown means of propulsion, the almost blitzing style of the attack found all 30 of the thorns strike the Ark Angel’s aft quarter shields slamming them from 100% down to 87% as the ship shook from the impact.

Recovering from the impact, Drudco snapped out, “..Red Alert! All hands battle stations! NE Barks alert the Merrimack!!..” She said.

”..Aye ma’am!” Barks replied.

Ahead the second portal opened showing more artificial like ships shaped like a bird’s beak at the front they would angle back to a boxy curved structure with a pair of quad set of ovular shaped nacelle housings. These would match the smaller raiding ships encountered by earlier ships in history. About 15km long by 8km wide and 10 km height they spread out in number till 20 of the ships filled the nearby space.

”..NE Barns,” she said to the ensign to their left at helm, “..bring us to full impulse, and begin an evasive course back into the system to rendezvous with the Merrimack! Tactical target the enemy ships at will, but hold fire unless they throw more of those ‘thorns’ at us. I want to try one more time at an attempt to resolve this peacefully! Hold off on loading our Red Matter warheads..” She said.

”..Channel open ma’am…” Barks replied, echoed a second later by Barns, “..Course set..”

=/\= This is Fleet Captain Drudoc Andone aboard the USS Ark Angel! We demand to know the reasons for your attack upon the temporal fabric of our reality! If you do not cease your attack upon this ship and the Federation we will respond with the full force at my command! =/\= She snapped out.

Meanwhile the 20 odd smaller craft spread out further into groups of 4, forming 5 squadrons spread out over a 200,000km area around the Ark Angel with the far larger ship in pursuit as they went back into the system where the Merrimack was still around the third planet.

After a second another reply came in, =/\= There can be no reasons given, no discussions had, no mercy expected nor provided, for where reality bends at our will and to our shape only we may tread. For our will, our thoughts, our vision is the only one of purity..=/\= Came the reply followed by another opening of the ‘mushroom head’ at the front of the larger ship with another burst of thorns coming sailing in their way! Meanwhile the smaller ships broke their held formations strafing the Ark Angel from port to starboard and starboard to port on the dorsal vectors, knocking shields down to 85% minor damage from that source, but if concentrated and over time would be deadly.

Drudoc shook her head, “..So be it then. Tactical target all ships, alert the loading teams to prepare our Red Matter warheads..” she said.

Cochrane nodded and looked at the tactical station. “Commence fire on the smaller groups of ships. Helm try and keep us between them and the Merrimack. Fire non-Red matter torpedoes, spread alpha-mike-four. Try and scatter those squadrons, they won’t be as effective if they aren’t hitting us simultaneously. Science, let’s get a solution for closing those rifts. We don’t need them calling for backup.”

Cochrane, XO

“Yessir,” Sadie muttered, quivering slightly while madly typing and scanning and trying various simulations to see if anything might work to close the rifts. “If we fired a tachyon stream, what would that do?” she wondered quietly to herself, trying it out in a simulation.
