USS Ark Angel
Main Sim - Briefing Room - Meeting Traleen
[snip]
Drudoc entered the briefing room again with Starr and Trainor in tow. They had barely been there two minutes when the chime for the door rang. Turning Drudoc said. =/\= Enter! =/\=
Drudoc Andone CO / GM CockRoach
Moments later the doors opened to the briefing room as they entered. “Captain this is Lt commander Traleen!” As Trax introduced him to the captain. “Do you wish me to say, sir?” Trax asked before they started there conversation. He was not sure why he was he escort for this man but he knew the captain had her reasons. As he waited quietly for her response.
Lt Jg Trax Suder - CMO
Traleen was a stocky man, standing at 5‘11, with sandy brown hair, blue eyes, and though treated by medical still had a few bruise markings here and there with his uniform cut up or ripped in spots along the shirt.
”..No Lieutenant, you can return to sickbay, and continue to monitor the Browns Town crew for any other issues. If there’s not then your time is your own..” Drudoc said.
Once Trax had left, Drudoc gestured for all of them to take a seat. “..Let’s sit down, can I get you something to drink or eat Commander?” Drudoc asked first off.

Simon walked over to the replicator, getting himself a water. As Drudoc made the offer to Lieutenant Commander Traleen, he waited there to see if he wanted anything. He was already by the replicator when the captain asked, so waited for Traleen’s response. He was following the captain’s lead on this one. He hadn’t had to deal with temporal issues before during his time in Security, but had the necessary training.
Lieutenant Simon Starr, XO
Trax was confused by the captain’s response to him He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade, not an ensign. He would have to talk to the captain later to see if there was a change he was not aware of. As he took a look a glance around the bridge briefly taking in the area quietly then moved to the lift as he entered the lift and returned to the main sickbay.

Traleen looked between the trio, then took a seat. “..A glass of water would be fine, and maybe a chocolate bar or something. Survival rations arent the best even for only a day.” He remarked.
Drudoc nodded wryly, then to Starr to get the offered glass and chocolate bar. Once Traleen had it from Starr he took a long sip and a healthy bite of the chocolate bar. Given the look on his face he clearly had some surprise given the advanced replication effect the replicator nearby produced. Though for the moment he seemed to brush it off.
Simon ordered the water and chocolate bar from the replicator, and moved over to take his seat at the table when he had given Traleen his food and drink.
Drudoc then waited till Starr and Trainor took their own seats indicating each of them. “..This is Lieutenant Starr, my executive officer and my chief of operations Lt Commander Trainor. I am the Ark Angel’s commanding officer Drudoc Andone..” She said by way of introductions.
Simon offered a hand to shake to Traleen as the captain introduced him “a pleasure, commander,” he said with a friendly tone.
”..Pleased to meet you three. I take it though things arent all on the up and up for what remains of the Browns Town crew hmm?” he said bluntly clearly getting to the point.
Drudoc furrowed her brow at the cultural reference a moment. “..Ah up and up, something being off from what you expect. Yes I suppose that puts a good point on our current situation..” She replied.
”..Before the crash our science officer, Lt Bens thought our star alignment was situating us somewhere in the Beta Quadrant, but then his console exploded and sent him tumbling so we never did get much of a chance to figure out where we were. So maybe we can start there?” Traleen asked.
Drudoc nodded, “..You and your ship wound up far beyond the borders of the Federation deep in the heart of unexplored space of the Beta Quadrant. My ship and crew have been out here for almost half a year exploring various unclaimed systems and doing survey work. We were not too far away when we picked up your distress beacon..” She said.
Traleen hmmm, taking this in, taking another sip of his water and another savoring bite of the chocolate bar. He seemed in thought for now on how to proceed next. Drudoc did not wait too long though, “..Commander, perhaps you could start an explanation of how you wound up out here?..” She said leaving out the fact they already had a working theory for now.
Swallowing the chocolate bite, he took another sip before replying. “..Pretty straight forward stuff really. The Browns Town had been picked to test a warp field and formula improvement refinement by the Starfleet Corp Of Engineers. We spent about two days in dry dock around Earth getting some refits done for the experiment. The idea was the field and formulas would improve efficiency of warp travel and speeds by almost 25%. I love.....loved the Browns Town engines, Captain..” he said trailing off in a manner only an engineer could understand. A look Drudoc seemed to reflect in her own flash of memories.
”..I can understand more then you might imagine, Commander. Go on..” Drudoc prompted.
”…Sadly I didn’t get a chance to fully look into the changes the Corp of Engineers was putting into our engines before we left dry dock. What little I was able to see seemed......odd to me. The gravitational harmonics for example seemed much higher then they needed to be, and the matter/anti-matter stream ratios were frankly far beyond what I thought could be tolerated by our warp coils. Sadly by the time I had looked at this much we were already leaving the Sol system passing Pluto when the Captain ordered us to warp. At first everything was fine, we got up to warp 7.3 before I registered a power spike in the port nacelle, but before I could call for a shut down the ship’s field went haywire! Next thing I know we’re all being tossed about like a bag of jacks and balls. Somehow I was able to hit the shutdown sequence on the bridge’s engineering station. But instead of getting out of warp helm reported our speed was increasing passing well over Warp 11!..” He said.

“Could the unusual specifications you were given explain how that managed to happen, Commander?” Simon asked Traleen. He wondered how a ship traveling at the equivalent speed as recorded could end up causing the ship to jump forward over 100 years into the future, if that was what happened. The fact that Traleen was a member of the original crew seemed to support that theory, as he would be dead by human standards by now if those years passed naturally, at least in Simon’s experience - humans didn’t live higher than 100, if they reached that age. He looked over Commander Traleen’s file once more to view his entire service record while waiting for a response.
The service record of Traleen was pretty standard stuff, he was a competent engineer when he graduated from the Academy in 2241, serving mainly on several minor postings in Starfleet ranging from tug/transports, to Outpost 12 near the Klingon border, to a scout ship called the USS Bethany’s Pride. All were the usual 1-5 year stints with nothing standing out as being fishy. Traleen wasn’t any miracle kind of engineer but he was good at his job. His promotion to Lt Commander saw him assigned to the Browns Town for a year before the accident he described. From there his file ended listing him as being MIA.
”..I don’t think so! That is what is odd at best the formula in theory would have allowed us to reach a more stable warp 8 cruising speed for a longer time then normal..” Traleen replied.
Lieutenant Simon Starr, XO
“What was Starfleet trying to accomplish?” Trainor thought to himself as he heard the exchange between Traleen and the exec team. Tenzing wasn’t able to gauge whether or not the Commander was hiding anything about the incident.
Traleen’s reactions so far seemed on the up and up, he was just as lost as the Ark Angel crew was on this mystery. Turning to Trainor Traleen replied again. “..In theory to allow us to travel at warp 8 with more stability and efficiency then was possible..” He said.
While his expertise wasn’t Engineering but rather the software of a star ship, the Operations Chief could only hypothesize that someone was trying to fling that ship at a faster rate that it could handle.
“I’m surprised the ship didn’t break up.” Lieutenant Commander Trainor added.
Trainor OPS
”..Continue, Commander..” Drudoc said to Traleen.
”..Well once I had registered our warp speed levels the ship was shaking pretty badly, as your operations chief said I’m surprised too we hadn’t blown up yet by some mercy. The Captain ordered an emergency stop, but the helm controls were out. It was then we discovered we had entered some kind of vortex, maybe a wormhole, I’m not sure really. The trip through it lasted only about a moment but when we were thrown clear we had dropped from warp just outside the system we’re in now. Control was still at a loss and we were hurdling in system at well over full impulse, the ship shuddered and we quickly realized the strain of everything had ripped off our port nacelle. I’m guessing its still somewhere in the system but your guess is as good as mine on where. Just as we got some control by thrusters to orient ourselves working we got stuck in the gravity well of this planet and well.....everything went dark after that..” He explained.
Drudoc nodded a bit, and after a moment Traleen continued, “..Not much else to say really. The upper deck crews somehow survived, but everything below deck 6-11 was compacted or sheered off in the crash. I think our only saving grace was I had gotten our warp core, matter/antimatter pods jettisoned before the crash otherwise we’d have just left a big mark on this mud ball. We were here about a day before being able to cobble together our emergency beacon from the rubble and well barely a few hours went by before you showed up..” He said.
Drudoc nodded once more seeming in thought, “..Commander Traleen I’m sorry for your losses. Rest assured we’ll be doing all we can to help your people and make you comfortable. We’re currently making efforts to recover your ship’s disaster box for more information which we’ll review on the lengthy return trip to Federation space. Thankfully the Ark Angel has provisioning for events like this so we shouldn’t have problems keeping your crew comfortable in guest quarters for the next four months. Once every has recovered their strength I and my staff will ensure you are comfortable as we can manage..........” Drudoc paused a moment obviously considering how to proceed here next, “..but there are.....some concerns you should prepare yourself and in time your crew mates for.” She said.
Finishing his drink and chocolate bar, Traleen interrupted. “..What? Like the fact we’ve seemed to jump some time ahead?” He asked. Drudoc blinked at his amused reply, “..Please Captain, I’m no fool. At least unless you ask my mother-in-law..” he chuckled then sighed. “..your ship’s design and tools in your sickbay, not to mention your uniforms are kinda a dead give away we’re not in the same time point the Browns Town went to warp in.” He said.
”..That is true enough…” Drudoc began but again Traleen interrupted seeming an edge on frustrated at the tone she had taken so far in baby stepping the issue.
”..So how about you stop treating me like some kid and just spit it out then?” he demanded.
Drudoc looked to Starr, then Trainor, before back to Traleen. “..Very well Commander, you are right. You aren’t in the 23rd century anymore. You’ve traveled to the late 24th century. 2395 to be exact, how exactly you got here we have yet to explain but as I was explaining a moment ago there is a likely consideration that you must accept we have no means of returning you and your crew to your own time..” She said.
Traleen seemed to reign in his look of anger or frustration and sat back again, “..143 years..” He said softly. “..I guess the only bright side is my aforementioned mother-in-law is long dead.” He said with a weak effort to smile in amusement for some reason over that.
”..You need to understand in time Commander, history has already recorded your loss. Even if we could return you to your time even brief as it has been here now the experiences you have under taken could alter our past and your future in ways we can’t predict. It is because of temporal events like this that Starfleet formed a Temporal Prime Directive. My hands are tied in this case even if we could return you to your time, I’m sorry.” She said. “..Know that we’ll do all we can over the next four months to help you and your crew adapt here, as will Starfleet upon our return..”
Traleen nodded some seeming to digest all this. “..When can I tell ....tell whats left of my crew?” he asked.
”..I would suggest waiting until they’re all cleared from Sickbay and settled into their assigned quarters. Our ship’s counseling department is a little bigger then most other ships due to our usual affair of mission scopes so feel free to make use of their services. Until our return then to Federation space you will have access to any public area of the ship, except those related to core department works. I’ll have Lt Starr work up a few PADDs outlining where you and your crew mates can and cant go. This is more so for their safety and to for now minimize any further impact on the timeline in the off chance you could return to your time period..” She said. “..Any questions?”
”..I guess not Captain Andone. This temporal prime directive seems annoying to say the least but it does make a logical sort of sense I guess.” he replied.
Drudoc nodded and looked to Starr and Trainor. “..Lt Starr, work up enough PADDs for the Browns Town crew. Adjust their normal interfaces to accept input familiar to use in the mid-23rd century. Also ensure they get the security clearances to freely get to the more public and recreational areas of the ship..” She said then turned to Trainor. “..Commander Trainor, I want you to work up a few tour groups for them in a few days once everyone is settled make sure everyone knows the basics of where they can and cant go, and how to access the replicators and ship’s computer and the like.” She said.
”..Any other questions then for our guest?” She asked.
