Domingo smiled in response before tucking back into his own dinner. “Knowing a feeling and being able to label it and know what may have caused it doesn’t do much to prevent it. A degree in emotions… I imagine would bring frustrations when faced with your own. Doctor heal thyself eh?”

Katie’s slightly twisted expression turned into genuine amusement as she responded, “good thing I’m not actually a doctor.” She could feel her shoulders give way slightly from their tensed position as the emotionally charged moment passed and she reached forward to take a small sip of wine. Closing her eyes for a moment as she leaned back, she sighed in contentment before opening them to study Chavez. “Well, I think that’s about all of the food I can get in,” she commented with a grin. “That was amazing, thank you.”

“You are most welcome. I hope I didn’t shame my grandmother’s spirit.” Domingo responded with a wry smile. He leaned back in his chair and slowly swirled his wine glass.

“Not as fun, or emotional, as our first drinking adventure but I had a wonderful evening tonight Katie.”

Katie watched again as the wine swirled in his glass and then took a small sip of her own. She resisted the urge to shift uncomfortably in her chair. When she had accepted the dinner invitation in his quarters, she knew that the date would arrive at this moment and it was precisely as awkward as she had imagined it would be. She stared down in her own glass for a few moments before finally responding, “I did too.”

Domingo stood and collected both plates before moving them into the kitchen area to set aside. He then walked as confidently as he could muster back to Katie while calling out, “Computer, play an easy salsa song to dance to.”

While an appropriately ethnic salsa rhythm was piped in over the sound system, Domingo held out his hand. “It would be a shame to end it just yet. May I have this dance senorita?”
