A flash of what could only be described as excitement on the supposedly emotionless Vulcan’s face was seen before it calmed into more cooler tones. “..Quite so, Lieutenant! There was a target I was hoping would uncover a ceremonial vault but it would sound like part of it if not much of it is lost to that creature. I was hoping to glean information on the burial habits of the Lawgiver and their servants and to pursue some findings your medical team no doubt has by now confirmed on some kind of violence among the populace at some point which included possible cannibalism and ritualistic attempts according to records I found on attempts to return life to the dead. The second is of course superstitious nonsense but interesting nonetheless.” He stated.

As Katie listened to the discourse between the various people, she found her eyes drifting predominantly to Shanok. Since their evaluation had been interrupted, it was key that she get as much of a read on him as possible through his interactions and conversations with the other members of the Ark Angel crew. Her head inclined slightly to one side as she observed the emotion coming across his face so clearly that you didn’t need to be an empath to read it. It was unexpected from a Vulcan and made her wish that she’d had more time to chat with the man.

“Is there anything else that the crew should be aware of for their own safety?” she finally asked.

”..Nothing in the local area, there are some avian creatures which feed on smaller animals but they should avoid us given our size and stature..” He said.

“Have you found much else of interest since you’ve been here for… how long was it again?” Katie inclined her head toward him to indicate her curiosity, but she was still trying to piece the various aspects of Shanok’s story together. She didn’t want to go to the CO with a hunch about a Vulcan showing excitement. There needed to be more than that.

Shanok seemed to pause just perceptibly to Nunn’s senses before replying. “..5 years of course..” He said calmly then. Clearly this was wrong or conflicting at least with what he said before in the tent being six years being here.

Katie’s eyes narrowed just briefly as she watched Shanok respond to the question. The cues that he was giving as he paused weren’t consistent with someone searching their memory for an accurate response; they were more indicative of someone who was not being truthful. She thought back herself, recalling that he had given her a different time frame during previous discussions and bit her lip. She quickly released it and nodded at him. “That’s right, it was quite a long time,” she commented neutrally. Her eyes flicked around the assembled group, trying to figure out who the best person to discuss her concern with was and her eyes rested on Starr.

Returning her attention briefly to Shanok, she commented, “don’t think this got you out of an evaluation, but I’m going to check in with Lt Starr for a moment.” She added a soft laugh and a grin to her comment as she nudged the COS. “Do you have a minute, Lieutenant?” she queried, tilting her head to the side to indicate that she wanted to speak to him away from the group.

Shanok inclined his head slightly, “..As you wish Counselor. I will check in with your teams near the Archive dig site..” He said moving off in a southerly direction where the operations team had gone earlier and still was.

Starr acknowledged the look silently and moved to the side so that the two officers had a modicum of privacy. “What’s on your mind, Commander?” he asked curiously having noted that something didn’t sit right with the counselor with something Shanok said.

As they moved off to the side, Katie’s face twisted into concern and confusion. She was careful to keep her back to the Vulcan and whatever he was up to at this point. “I have a few nagging concerns and I’m not sure if they’re worth bringing to the attention of the captain,” she began, hesitantly. “Some of the information I’ve received from Shanok has been inconsistent. He’s given different answers to the same questions.” She felt confident starting with that aspect since it was more objective. She bit her lip for a moment before continuing on with the more subjective. “I’m reading emotions from him as I speak with him and, well, I don’t know how much interaction you’ve had with Vulcans, but it just doesn’t feel right. I don’t get a good gut feeling.” She looked at Starr hopefully, seeing what his reaction to her information was.
