It was Katie’s turn to nod her understanding as she filed Chavez’s words away for future reference. The wisdom behind them touched her. She looked down at her wine glass upon his question and a flash of surprise came across her features as she saw that it was empty as well. It probably wasn’t a wise decision to consume more at this pace, but, well… she nodded her head in response to his question and caught her lower lip under her top teeth as she watched him refresh her glass. “So what role do you play in life and what one do you think the universe makes you want to play?” She grinned softly, releasing her lip, to show that her question was part in jest, although there was a slight flash of seriousness underneath it.

Domingo settled the wine bottle back on the table before smiling in return, “My role is to use my life to keep others safe, no matter the cost.” With the smile still on his face, Domingo’s eyes were intensely serious. Having another sip of wine, he closed his eyes to savor the taste.
Exhaling in satisfaction and setting the glass back down on the table, Domingo answered the second part of the question, “As for the role the universe thrusts me into, well that’s the fool, constantly.”

Katie initially kept the upturn on her lips but her brow furrowed as she pondered Chavez’s response to her question with both concern and curiosity. She opened her mouth to question him, feeling the routine of pushing and delving come as easily to her in her off duty time as it did in her on duty time. With some force, she closed her mouth once again, feeling her teeth skip against one another as she stood in one motion, her chair thankfully sliding back and not simply toppling over. With a quick stride or two, she found herself beside Chavez and her lips pressed against his in a firm, but slightly awkward kiss. As quickly as she had made contact, she broke it, flushing, and replied, “I don’t think you’re the fool.”

Domingo looked on surprised while the sensation of the firm kiss lingered on his lips. His mind was completely blank as Katie’s reply barely registered in his mind. A warmth spread in his chest, an almost suffocating feeling to have, one that was difficult to bear. Having slid his chair back to stand up, Domingo stepped close enough to Katie that she could feel his body radiating heat. Cupping his hands to the back of her head, he drew her back into a kiss while attempting to convey the raw emotion bubbling in his chest.

Katie’s hands fell loosely to her side as she blushed underneath the contact of their lips. As she felt Chavez’s hands on her head, she squirmed uncomfortably, but returned his kiss with equal passion and emotion. After a few moments, she broke the kiss as best she could. A slightly uncomfortable giggle escaped her reddened lips as she commented, “I think our food is getting cold.” She tugged on his forearms slightly as if to indicate her desire to return to the delicious meal.
