Katie nodded in agreement. “While the idea of serving on a ship remains the same, the change in layout can definitely be an issue,” she commented and then gave a small laugh. “I had barely learned my way around my previous ship before being transferred here and I’ve had some creative wrong turns so far.” Her expression sobered momentarily as she contemplated the rest of his statement regarding people. “But yes, it’s very hard to say good bye to those friends you make.” She gave a small thank you to the Starfleet powers that be for transferring her newest friend along with her to the Ark Angel. Taking a small breath to focus her, she dialed in on Corvax again and queried, “do you want to tell me about that part of your past?”

Dominic bit his lip and gave her a nod. “Yes. I would like to talk about it. It took place the night I found out I was going to be on the Endeavour as my first academy ship. Me and some friends decided to celebrate. When we celebrated we decided to play a game of truth or dare. So I chose to dare my best friend, the dare had changed his perspective of me....that night he died seeing me as a freak....just because of a dare....” he said as his voice became shaky

Katie reached forward and placed a firm hand on Corvax’s knee, squeezing it to provide a focusing pressure. “Take a few deep breaths for me, Ensign, before continuing,” she coached, her eyes focusing on his chest to ensure that he followed through and to monitor the results of her suggestion. She displayed no reaction to his story thus far, just concern about the effect that the retelling was having on the young man.

Dominic shut his eyes doing as instructed, he took a few shaky breathes til his breathing was back to normal letting his body relax some before continuing “he saw me as a freak because I had feeling for him........” He said calmly to the counselor and took a few more deep breathes to keep himself calm “he died because of me liking him....”

Katie waited patiently to allow Corvax to gather himself. She squeezed his knee again, more gently this time and more of a soothing gesture. “That sounds like a very difficult situation,” she responded. “But, Ensign, that’s not how emotions work. Just because you feel something doesn’t mean that it causes an action to occur. There’s a lot of decision making that goes on between those two steps.”

Dominic bit his lip as he listened to her talk “I guess your right....maybe I’m just over reacting a little bit....” He said as he started to think more and more about what had happened. “Maybe Lucas over reacted too.”
