USS Ark Angel

Main Sim- COMMAND REPORT — PRIORITY ONE

Transmission Type: Emergency Command Report
Origin: Starfleet Listening Post 47
Sector: Theta Persei Fringe — Sector 419
Stardate: 79012.4
To: Admiral Erica Archer, Starfleet Command Operations Division
From: Commander Vance, Commanding Officer, Starfleet Listening Post 47
Classification: Priority One — Command Eyes Only

The steady hum of Starfleet Listening Post 47 was interrupted by the repeated transmission of a distress beacon echoing through the Operations Center.

For hours, Ensign Cortez had worked to isolate the signal from the heavy interference surrounding the Theta Persei Fringe. What had first appeared to be a routine sensor anomaly had quickly become something far more significant.

A Starfleet distress call.

Commander Vance stood before the communications console as the secure subspace channel connected with Starfleet Command. The station’s main viewer flickered before resolving into the image of Admiral Erica Archer.

“Commander Vance,” Archer said. “I have received your preliminary alert. Starfleet requires confirmation before assets are deployed. Begin your report.”

Vance straightened.

“Admiral, at approximately 0427 hours station time, Listening Post 47 detected an unidentified subspace transmission originating from within the Theta Persei sector. Initial analysis suggested standard interference from the surrounding nebula and gravimetric activity. Further processing revealed the transmission was not natural.”

He paused.

“It is a Starfleet emergency distress beacon.”

Archer’s expression shifted.

“Registry?”

Vance looked toward the display.

“USS Pathfinder. NCC-74621.”

Silence followed.

“Confirm that registry, Commander.”

“Confirmed, Admiral. The Pathfinder was an Intrepid-class exploration vessel assigned to deep-space operations in the Theta Persei region. Starfleet records list the vessel as lost with all hands in 2298.”

Archer studied the information before her.

“Commander, are you suggesting the transmission originated from the Pathfinder?”

“Yes, Admiral.”

Vance continued.

“The encryption matrix matches late 24th-century Starfleet security protocols. The command authorization code embedded in the transmission belongs to Captain Amelia Hayes.”

Archer remained silent for a moment.

“Captain Hayes and her crew have been missing for over a century.”

“Yes, Admiral,” Vance replied. “According to Starfleet records.”

At Archer’s request, the station replayed the recovered transmission.

=^= This is Captain Amelia Hayes of the USS Pathfinder… NCC-74621… requesting immediate assistance… hull integrity failing… =^=

The recording ended.

“How long has this transmission been active?” Archer asked.

“We are still analyzing that information,” Vance replied. “However, our sensors indicate this is not a repeating automated distress signal. The carrier wave is adjusting in real time.”

He looked toward the communications display.

“Someone aboard the Pathfinder is transmitting.”

Archer brought up the available star charts.

“Have you located the vessel?”

“Not precisely. The interference is preventing a direct sensor lock. We have narrowed the source to the PX-941 system.”

Archer’s expression hardened.

“That system was abandoned due to unstable gravitational conditions and spatial distortions.”

“Yes, Admiral. Those conditions likely explain why the Pathfinder was never recovered.”

A brief silence passed between them.

“Your recommendation, Commander?”

Vance looked toward the Pathfinder signal still pulsing on the console.

“Starfleet should classify this as an active rescue operation.”

He paused.

“Not a historical investigation. Not a recovery mission.”

His voice became firm.

“If Captain Hayes and her crew are alive, they are Starfleet officers awaiting assistance.”

Archer nodded slowly.

“Transmit all sensor data, recordings, and telemetry to Starfleet Command immediately. Continue monitoring the signal, but do not enter the PX-941 system until a rescue vessel has been assigned.”

“Understood, Admiral.”

Before ending the transmission, Archer hesitated.

“Commander Vance.”

“Yes, Admiral?”

“Make sure Listening Post 47 keeps listening.”

The channel closed.

The Operations Center returned to silence.

Except for one sound.

The faint, repeating pulse of the USS Pathfinder’s distress beacon.

A ship lost for 104 years.

Still calling.

Still waiting.
