Vaarek

Vaarek was born on 3 January 2383 (when calculated to the Earth calendar) as the youngest of three siblings. His upbringing emphasised control of emotion, academic excellence, and personal discipline.

Joining Starfleet Academy’s medical division, he progressed quickly, earning a placement aboard the USS Ark Angel as part of his cadet development.
Vaarek approaches medicine as a system that can be understood, analysed, and resolved. He is precise, methodical, and reliable under pressure, with a strong focus on correct diagnosis and procedure. At the same time, he is beginning to understand the limits of this approach. He finds it difficult to respond to emotional distress and uncertain situations. He is, however, making an effort to remain present with his patients, even when he does not know what to do or how to respond to their feelings.

Outside of his duties, Vaarek keeps a routine that includes suus mahna (Vulcan martial arts) and daily calisthenics. He’s always has an interest in Vulcan poetry, but has recently begun reading works from other cultures, including Cardassian, Klingon, Romulan, and human traditions. He find that these non-Vulcan works expand his horizons, even as they affect him in ways he doesn’t quite understand. Through poetry, he’s also developed an interest in other languages and cultures.
