After completing Ensign Harmon’s examination, Dr. Charlotte Kelley returned to her office adjoining Main Sickbay. The doors slid shut behind her, muting much of the activity from the treatment ward outside.
Settling into her chair, she brought up Harmon’s medical file on her terminal. Diagnostic scans, bloodwork results, neurological readings, and physical fitness metrics populated the display. One by one she reviewed each report, comparing them against Starfleet baseline standards.
Finding no significant abnormalities, she began entering her final evaluation.
“Subject: Ensign Harmon. Physical condition excellent. Cardiovascular, neurological, and musculoskeletal systems within normal parameters. No evidence of communicable illness, injury, or medical limitation affecting duty performance. Cleared for unrestricted active service aboard USS Ark Angel.”
She added her authorization code and submitted the report to the ship’s personnel and medical databases.
The file disappeared from her pending review queue.
Leaning back slightly, Kelley picked up the next padd from the stack on her desk. The work of a Chief Medical Officer was never truly finished; there was always another report to review, another patient to evaluate, and another crew member depending on her department to keep them healthy among the stars.

Vaarek saw the new human colleague in her office when he exited the nurse’s station. Vaarek tried to remember that humans enjoyed non-verbal communication.

Vaarek lifted his hand up, with the palm facing Kelley’s direction. Hopefully she would see him through the window to her office. He then began rigorously waving his hand.
