Shortly after the Ark Angel came out of warp speed, Starbase 243 finally saw the Ark Angel on their long-range sensors. One of the main Operations officers glanced over the telemetry before turning to the duty controller.

“Sir, the Ark Angel has entered the system. Identity confirmed. Warp signatures match the flight plan.”

The duty controller nodded and stepped over to the communications console. “Open a channel.” A moment later, the transmission was sent.

=/\=Starbase 243 operations to USS Ark Angel. This is Starbase 243 Operations. We have you on our sensors and are tracking your approach. Your transponder has been verified, and your arrival logged. Continue on your present course. Docking Control will provide final approach vectors as you enter station traffic control range. Welcome to Starbase 243. We look forward to your arrival.=/\= The duty controller said to the Ark Angel.

=/\= Starbase 243 operations, this is USS Ark Angel. Captain Alex Becket in command. We look forward to it. =/\= He replied.

Around the operations center, controllers continued monitoring the Ark Angel’s telemetry as the starship closed the distance to the station, ensuring a safe and orderly arrival.

Lieutenant Commander Dr. Charlotte Kelley stood at the center seat beside Captain Becket, watching the starbase grow larger on the viewscreen. The familiar structure of Starfleet engineering and design filled the display, a reminder of the countless crews and missions that had passed through its docking bays.

As the communication channel closed, Kelley glanced down at the operations display, reviewing the approach data.

“Starbase 243 has us logged and cleared for approach,” she reported. “Docking Control has assigned us a standard arrival vector. No traffic conflicts reported.”

She paused briefly, looking over the bridge crew as they continued preparing for arrival.

“Helm has a clean approach. Engineering reports all systems operating within normal parameters. We’re ready for docking operations.”

Kelley then turned slightly toward Captain Becket.

“After everything this crew has been through, it’s good to see a friendly station on the other side of the viewscreen.”

A faint smile crossed her face.

“Starbase 243, a safe harbor, familiar faces, and probably a few dozen reports waiting for us.”

She looked back toward the viewscreen as the ArkAngel continued its approach.

“Welcome home, Captain.”

He smiled. “Thank you, Commander. I appreciate it. It’s just not really what I want, but I must do what I need to do.” He said.

Charlotte Kelley looked over at Captain Becket, her expression softening as she noticed the weight behind his words. She had served beside him long enough to understand that this was more than just a routine transfer of command or a change of assignment.

She folded her hands behind her back, keeping her voice calm and professional.

“Captain… I understand.”

She glanced briefly toward the viewscreen, where Starbase 243 continued to grow larger as the ArkAngel approached.

“None of us who choose a life in Starfleet do so because it is easy. We take the assignments we’re given, we make the decisions we have to make, and we carry the responsibilities that come with them.”

She looked back at him.

“But that doesn’t mean every decision is one we want to make.”

A small pause followed.

“You’ve given this ship and this crew everything you had. That doesn’t disappear because your command is coming to an end.”

Charlotte offered him a reassuring nod.

“The ArkAngel is what it is because of your leadership, Captain. The next person who sits in that chair inherits a ship with a strong foundation because you built it.”

She glanced toward the docking display as the station control markers updated.

“And for what it’s worth… I think this crew knows exactly what kind of captain you’ve been.”

Her expression warmed slightly.

“Even if you’re ready to move on, sir, don’t underestimate the impact you’ve had here.”

He sighed for a moment. “Your right Commander. Even though I’ve served this ship for about a good while, I know that captain T’Nara will be a new commanding officer on board. I assume you’ll do what you can to keep her from getting anyone killed?” He asked. The with a smile he looked back.

=/\= USS Ark Angel this is Starbase 243. Your in Starbase perimeter. Prepare for docking.=/\=. Said the duty operations officer on duty on Starbase 243.

=/\=Very well.=/\=. He replied.

=/\= Enjoy the ride and welcome home. =/\= they said.

Soral stood quietly at the rear of the bridge, his hands loosely clasped behind his back as the immense structure of Starbase 243 slowly expanded across the viewscreen.

The station represented more than a destination.

It marked the conclusion of one command and the commencement of another.

Such transitions were an inevitable aspect of Starfleet service. While individual officers came and went, the institution itself endured, preserving its mission through continuity rather than permanence. From Soral’s perspective, there was a certain logic to that philosophy.

His gaze moved briefly across the bridge.

Each officer remained focused on their duties despite the significance of the occasion. Helm maintained the approach vector with practiced precision. Operations monitored docking telemetry. Engineering reported all systems functioning within expected parameters. Routine procedures continued uninterrupted.

Professionalism, Soral reflected, was often demonstrated most clearly during periods of change.

His attention returned to the steadily growing starbase.

As Chief Diplomatic Officer, he found transitions of authority academically interesting. Different captains inevitably brought different command philosophies, yet the crew’s ability to adapt while preserving Starfleet’s core principles remained one of the organization’s greatest strengths. It was a model of institutional stability that many interstellar governments struggled to achieve.

The docking sequence progressed exactly as anticipated.

An expected outcome.

Satisfied that there was nothing requiring his intervention, Soral remained silent, allowing the bridge officers to carry out their responsibilities as the Ark Angel completed the final stage of her journey home.

Charlotte glanced toward the rear of the bridge and briefly noticed Lieutenant Soral T’Varon standing in his usual composed manner, observing the approach without interfering. It was a very Vulcan response to the moment—measured, analytical, and entirely appropriate.

The ArkAngel continued her steady approach toward the docking facility, the massive starbase now dominating the viewscreen.

“Range to docking bay?” Charlotte asked.

“Thirty thousand kilometers and closing,” Operations replied. “All approach corridors are clear.”

“Maintain course and speed.”

“Aye, Commander.”

Charlotte rose from her seat and took a slow look around the bridge. There was a different atmosphere today. Beneath the routine reports and standard procedures, everyone understood what this arrival represented.

For Captain Becket, it was the end of a chapter.

For Captain T’Nara, it was the beginning of one.

For the crew, it was a reminder that while commanders changed, the mission endured.

She found her eyes settling briefly on Soral. The Vulcan appeared as calm as ever, undoubtedly examining the transition from a logical and diplomatic perspective. In truth, Charlotte found some comfort in that. Not every significant moment required speeches or sentiment. Sometimes professionalism itself was enough.

Returning her attention to the front of the bridge, she addressed the crew.

“Excellent work, everyone. Let’s make this docking as smooth as the rest of the voyage.”

A chorus of acknowledgments followed.

Captain Becket remained in the center chair, watching Starbase 243 draw nearer. Charlotte stood beside him, sharing the view for a moment.

“Everything is proceeding exactly as planned, Captain,” she said quietly.

Outside, the station’s docking arms illuminated against the darkness of space as guidance beacons flashed in sequence, leading the ArkAngel toward her assigned berth.

For all the emotions accompanying the day, the ship herself seemed unconcerned.

She simply continued forward, carrying her crew toward whatever came next.
